paraSITE proposes the appropriation of the exterior ventilation systems on existing architecture as a means for providing temporary shelter for homeless people. The paraSITE units in their idle state exist as small, collapsible packages with handles for transport by hand or on one's back. In employing this device, the user must locate the outtake ducts of a building's HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) system. yeah seen it and seams kinda lame....a couple of punks with some razor blades could pretty much waste it..... and it blends in so well....the cops will never know your there
it's not meant for YOU to sleep in... it's a nice thing someone has done for the homeless people.. i found out about it from a newspaper the homeless people have here.. as for the cops - check the www.. well, i guess i missed the forum 'room' with this thread..
sorry if i sounded harsh....but the reality is it is only a gimmick from a designer wanting to get his/her name in the paper it does "look" cool and different but thats it ....and if i am not willing to live in a plastic baggie attached to a vent i do not see why they would either...it looks flimsy and does not look like it will hold up in a storm or snow...or provide security... it takes a little bit more then handing out jumbo trash bags to provide shelter to the homeless....a much better idea would be yurt villages it would provide people with dignity something living in what looks like a frozen burrito lacks....... peace
It looks like the exhaust air just flows through the tube, not into the actual "living space" but it's hard to tell from the pic. No cop would ever allow that to remain.
