True or False? I'm going crazy with all these clues the beatles *apparently* left behind in their album covers and songs. Do you think its true? Did Paul really die in the 60s? Discuss.
It would explain Pauls musical direction after the beatles, plus the selling of the rights to the songs in the beatle cataloge.
I envision an island with elvis..morrison...hendrix...paul...etc...laughin it up....jamming.....livin large and away from a life they grew to despise....cobain too....joplin...all of the biggies.....and i was a kid when the paul thing went down...i remember them talkin about it on the radio
noela, watch the rest of the folklore 101 video we watched yesterday! it gets crazier i assure you! ... i DID believe it at first, but then after watching all the beatles documentary's and such, i just dont think "billy shiers/campbell" could fake it ... however john lennon DOES have a different side ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NojZ2zGnO4U
That's not quite correct. The rights to most of the Lennon/McCartney catalog is owned by Northern Songs, which is a publicly traded company in England. Initially, John and Paul were together the largest stockholders, but due to the legal wranglings around the time of the breakup, they were both forced to sell their shares. After that, they received songwriter royalties, but no longer actually owned the rights to their own songs. Later, Michael Jackson bought controlling interest in Northern Songs. Paul tried to buy the stock from Jackson, but was not able to do so.
While appearing on the Letterman Show Sir Paul recently talked about how Michael outbid him on the beatles material, and that they were never the same friends as before. Heres an article I found on it from the SunTimes "Here’s a question for you, how much do you think The Beatles’ catalog of songs would be worth? Back in 1984 Michael Jackson was thinking right around $47.5 million because that is what he bid on the catalog. That meant that royalties from all sales, performances and broadcasts of Beatles music were split 50-50 between Jackson and the songs’ writers (McCartney and John Lennon.) Up until that time, McCartney and Jackson had a friendly personal and professional relationship, recording a couple of songs together in the ‘80s, “The Girl Is Mine” and “Say, Say, Say.” In fact, rumor has it that it was McCartney that reportedly told Jackson about all the money he made by owning other people’s songs, that’s when Jackson became interested in getting into that side of the music business. According to London’s Daily Mirror McCartney said “The annoying thing is I have to pay to play some of my own songs. Each time I want to sing ‘Hey Jude’ I have to pay.” That was enough to put a permanent glitch in their friendship."
It does seem crazy that Paul doesn't own his own songs, but I guess it's not all that unusual. Plenty of artists don't own the copyrights to their songs. Same with book authors and whatnot. And as you mention, Paul owns the copyrights to hundreds of other non-Beatle songs. I remember reading that he even owns the team fight song for the University of Wisconsin, I think it is. Every time the band plays the fight song during a football game, Paul gets a royalty. That seems pretty crazy, too. But back to "Paul is dead" ... (sorry for hijacking) People were still talking about this when I was a kid. He was in a motorcycle accident around that time, and that was supposedly how he died. He also suddenly split with his longtime girlfriend and married Linda, whom nobody had heard much about. That seemed very odd. And all those funny "clues" in the songs and stuff. I dunno. I guess some rumors are just too much fun to let die, whether they're true or not.
I love ALL the Beatles. BTW, if you read the biographies at all you'll know the "Paul is Dead" thing was a publicity stunt, and it worked.
oh well, heavens me D: i wonder why people still talk about this conspiracy still if it was already proven false, i guess we're all not that wiki-smart.
Personally, thought it was a random thing that was made up before. But after a post and this compilation, it kinda hit the nail on the head for me to actually look into it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdRgDOkM43E
I know a few streets that i could easily proclaim that if you decided to actually take your shoes off and try to cross it lol.
