I really like peace signs. I put them on my clothes and doodle them and such. I want to save up for one of the cool ones at peaceplease(dot) com BUT I wonder sometimes why bother? I keep seeing more and more little kids-junior high down to babies wearing peace signs 'cause they are an IN fashion statement not because they mean anything. I have read about Buddhists who stopped wearing wrist malas when 'power beads' got to be such a big thing. If they don't mean anything anymore why bother? peace Delfynasa
i know exactly what u mean my sister did it after i started wearing peace signs and grateful dead shirts and she got one n she dont listetn, i keep seeing more and more people who wear peace signs and tie dyes because they are in now , i actuallty seen a shirt at wal-mart that had a "peace sign" that was actually a mercedes sign i laughed
Don't worry. Soon peace signs will go out of style again, and those of us for whom they have meaning will still be wearing them, and can't be accused of just riding a fashion wave.
Consumerism is all about turning things into a commodity. I cant say this for sure since ive only been around 20+ but ever since somewhere in the 90's when the Internet really took off the marketing seems to have followed some sort of model that goes like 'conformity through individuality.' Its bullshit to me and seems like what they are trying to do is sell to you something for when you 'feel in that mood' or to represent a certain free spirit you may have that you may not feel you can show because of some of the restraints and proper ways to act enforced by culture and society, so wearing a peace sign represents an 'ideal self.' I work in retail and I'll see upper class women with expensive ass sun glasses and makeup, designer name jeans, expensive done hair rocking a peace shirt. The symbol has become a parody of itself to me. Those sarcastic t shirts that are abundant annoy me too. Basically what it seems like what is happening is marketers and fashion designers are supplying personalities for people to unimaginative to have one without the product.
im not hip with the peace sign.. i like this sign though... peace sign is no good as long as cannibis sativa remains illegal... It should be no more illegal than a apple tree... DIG!!!
I know how you feel it's like 10 years ago it was cool to wear Che Guevera t-shirts weather you knew who Che was or not. I remember when I was in Highschool the movie Malcom X came out. At the time it was the big thing to wear a baseball cap with a big X on it. I once had a kid with one on as me who Malcom X was. Granted this was in Maine where there were no Black people but still. Now how many Malcom X hats do you see around? Peace Out, Rev J
don't see many of those Malcom hats anymore or too many Che shirts...I did see one recently but that made it stand out because you don't see many...SO STUPID TO WEAR IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS!! Wow, what a way to prove you are a total idiot...humans sigh peace Delfynasa
I feel the same way about band shirts. I won't wear a band shirt I don't like the band or I don't even know the band at all. I know some people who do this and it annoys me.
The peace sign is cool. A good runic interpretation. Though every time I make it with my fingers it's a synonym for putting my tongue in naughty places.
^the sign of a total douchebag, car window fags... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N11zEHk73bA&feature=related"]YouTube- CAR FLAGS. End the FEDeral Reserve, Gadsden, Culpepper. Douchebag quality doubles the more flags you gots..
Theres this kid at my school, his name is TJ. He goes to civil war reenactments for the confederates. He started smoking and wanted to fit in with other stoners. He put the beatles on his ipod even though he always hated them. He listened to 'Hammerfall', and 'rob zombie' until he watched taking woodstock and thought he was a hippie. He had a peace sign patch on his back pack, next to a confederate flag, and a "peace through superior firepower" patch. Just thought I'd share haha.
There is a line from Crosby Stills Nash & Young "Teach ur chidren well..." Think it applies here: I'll still be wearing mine:
By the way dude I'm a Hippie and I like Rob Zombie and Hammerfall (although I like Blind Guardian better). Have you ever noticed how many pictures there are of Ozzy Osbourne in a white fringed suit flashing a peace sign or how many jam bands cover Sweet Leaf Just a couple of examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tt14ZqlmCQ"]YouTube- Sweetleaf - Gov't Mule Bonnaroo 2007 sorry about the quality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5Ej4E-YwZI"]YouTube- Sweetleaf by Galactic I grew up on metal I still like it and that doesn't make me any less of a Hippie. Either now the kid is going through a transitional phase or a Hippie phase. For all I know you could be going through a Hippie phase too right now. So I make no judgements. Peace Out, Rev J
if peace signs are something YOU like then you should use/draw/wear them. who cares if everyone else is doing it for "trend" purposes
