i get manicures & pedicures all the time, yeah they can just file them without making them shiny, but personally i think it looks good shiny, i always have them put clear polish on.

Go for it! I love pedicures, nothing like an attractive woman tending to my tootsies! The tech can remove that excess cuticule, but in my case they don't look that shiny unless they put a clear coat of polish on them.

Also a veteran of MANY pedicures here. ;-) Just ask them not to buff your nails...that's where they rub a very fine-grained filing pad across your nails, which removes the top layers of the nail and is what can make them shiny (if you don't get a clear top coat of polish). I also prefer the shiny look myself, but since you don't just let them know and they should oblige.

What else can/does a pedicure include? I've not had one, but would like to start especially in the spring. But up here I don't know if there's anyone who does this---plus, (this ain't no Seattle)---can't imagine what ANYone would think of a guy getting one! Not that that will stop me, but it's another thing---Oh who knows--

Well, a GOOD standard pedicure (and trust me there are BAD ones!) starts with a foot soak, usually with some sort of skin conditioning lotion or something like that. Then they clip and buff your nails, clean up the cuticles, massage your feet and lower legs with lotion and get rid of any rough spots on your soles or heels. After that, they apply any polish that you want, or just a clear top coat if you don't want any color. Spa pedicures are the same, but usually also include some kind of extra massage, or a parrafin wax dip that helps seal in some moisturizing lotion.

As far as availability goes, I'm sure that it's not that hard to find anywhere! There's certainly no shortage of nail salons or day spas in your area that offer this service, and it's not at all uncommon for men to get pedicures - well at least that's true here on the West Coast, according to the experiences I've had and the women who have given me pedicures. Men getting color on their toes is, but a lot of men from athletes to executives have found out that getting a pedicure isn't anything to be ashamed of, and that it's OK to pamper themselves too! :H

Thanks! Excellent advice. We're a very rural state, not to mention cold, but also quite liberal in many coastal pockets, and almost all the state is freedom-loving enough to be tolerant---mostly. I agree, we can be pampered too. Acceptance is nice, but not required. I'll start looking around.
