http://www.wsws.org/articles/2003/feb2003/penn-f25.shtml So how about that? These cops shot this kid in the back because he was running from a stolen car and "may" have had a weapon. What next? Can they now shoot someone in the back of the head when they pull them over because they "may" have a weapon? Read the article if you can stomach it. I barely could. ...by the way these guys are on "administrative leave" also known as "watchin the game".
Just goes hand in hand with the current governing principle that it's okay to invade countries and slaughter their people cause their leader may at some future point be a threat. Power unrestrained simply filters through every level of the chain of state control.
check the date on the article. .... but, yeah this kind of stuff happens all over right under the noses of the public.
Oops! This happened again very recently. I was doing research and dug up the wrong one. How shitty is that? That there should be another one happen...... I'm gonna go keep looking for the more recent one.
Ignoring the existence of Inagoda's typically ridiculous statements, I'll say something I"ve said time and time again. When it comes to defenders of capitalism (and that's precisely what cops are even if they aren't really aware of it), police are the strongarm of the corporate establishment. Why do you think cops are so willing to stand outside a starbucks or Mcdonalds during an anti-capitalist protest? Until cops' minds are changed, and the realisitc probability of that happening is debatable, they are and will continue to be the enemy of democratic discourse. I've said this before and I'll repeat it now: Grassroots mobilization put to revolutionary function will be the only final resort. **Electoral reform is now Obsolete...quite literally.
That reminds me: the police in CA (Inglewood?) who beat up that 16-year old black teen at the gas station a few years ago never came up with their vindication. They said they had video from across the street that would clear them, but they never produced it. Also, the person who took the home video of the police roughing up the teen was arrested on a driving violation he committed ten years earlier. He was in LA at the CNN bureau and the police (or some group) arrested him before he could do his interview and give his story. He was taken away in a black limo with black windows. You could hear him yelling for help inside as the limo drove away. Shows you how the police or government can get rid of people that have something to say. Creepy.
Reminds of the other story about the black man who was shot on his porch in a suburb of NY because the police thought he was a rapist loose in the neighborhood. He pulled out his wallet and one of the young inexperience cops said "look out, he has a gun." The police fired about 40 rounds at him and killed him. He wasn't the person they were looking for. All the police were cleared and Guiliani once again praised his police force.
Few years ago around here an older black man was shot up by the cops. He was retarded and still lived with his mother. He came out of the house with a butterknife to say hello to all the cops in the street and they filled him full of holes, 43 holes. The guy they were actually after lived two houses down. The official report was that he appeared to be posing a direct threat to the safety of the officers. That's why they put 43 holes into a retarded man holding a butterknife.
If it were me, I would shoot him. He may pose a threat. If he was dumb enough to steal a car, he deserves to be shot... honestly. Do not start with psychological desperation bullshit either... He deserved to be shot... You don't flee from stolen cars with the cops on your back!
Spoken like a true Israeli, gun them down for stealing a car (and all the easier if its in the back)! Of course we all can see how much more precious a piece of metal is than a human life. Sickening. Remind us all again why you haunt a forum devoted to hippy values?
Exactly! This very thing got me dragged outta my car and on to the ground where I was dragged to the back of my car, slammed on the trunk then thrown on the ground where two cops jumped onto my back with their knees, handcuffed me and drew guns telling me not to do anything stupid. The only reason I can think of (Considering I was never told) was that I had Grateful Dead stickers. We were pulled by a green Dodge Ram and a Blue Buick Skylark....both unmarked. They have tough jobs and go through a lot of shit so this kind of behavior is acceptable, right? Courtesy of Houston county sheriff's department, Dothan Alabama. Thanks guys! The streets are much safer now!
... or butter some toast and walk out onto your front porch. ah, but here they come ..... I find the all too predictable responses humorous. Not bad for a short belly laugh. There was no way several big strapping cops could take down a 12 year old on their own just by tackling him, nope. Cops are too dumb too and not trained well enough to recognize a real threat so it's best if they just practice shoot first and ask questions later. That's the ticket.
Police officers know what they are gettting into when they go on the force. If they aren't willing to take chances with their life than they shouldn't be a police officer. It is no excuse to empty your clip into a retarded man.
Police forces the world over are, as one poster said previously, merely the foot soldiers for corporate control over the masses. When push comes to shove, the true allegiance of the police has been repeatedly shown. Even a cursory examination of the repeated use of police by the power elite (both corporate and governmental) against the citizenry, especially when exercising the basic human right of dissent and protest against abuse of power, shows all too clearly that the motto " to protect and serve" refers to the establishment, not the people. Instances such as the one(s) raised in this thread (and others which I know of personally) speak directly to the belief that the most secure occupation for any criminal or psychopath is the police force. With such a close-knit and self-excusing fraternity as that, what better place for extortionists, thugs and indeed murderers to find a haven of impunity for their criminal tendencies?
There is a police adademy at my school. They parade around in black uniforms and jackboots all day. When they come into the cafeteria they are already trying to practice intimidation, feeling powerful by invading peoples spaces and being pushy. Ocassionally, there is an open seat at the table they choose. It's always interesting to go sit in it and try to engage them in conversation. The reality is that there is alot of underlying low self esteem and perhaps even greater pathologies running amok there. The best reason I've heard yet for being a police officer was " because I'll get to carry a gun, and nobody can fuck with me, fuck with me and I'll put em' down." It would have been funny were it sarcastic, but he wasn't.
That is how I feel, a lot of cops are very insecure people who need to feel secure by intimidating others and pushing them around. Cops are no longer the type to come to your house and get your cat down from a tree, or ask you if everything is ok, they are the kind of people who intimidate you, and ask you if you have anything illegal on you, or if you have commited any crimes, they treat you like a criminal even know they have no reason to believe that. The military training of our police is also the reason for this I believe. Peace and Love, Dan
