Agree or disagree? I agree with it. I just think people get distracted very easily by you're MTV's and your bling and what have have you. I also think people are almost destined to be easily distracted and emotionally void in that respect unless they've experienced and healed from suffering.
really?! you don't believe there are any evil people in this world?! I agree people are fundamentally good, but you're right they are easily steered off course...
People are bastard coated bastards ,with bastard filling. Nah, I think an individual person is essentially good, usually. but "people"- are assholes
Huh? No. It was an example of distractions. It was an allegory for a vapid detached modern lifestyle that separates us from our basic humanity. I didn't think I'd need to explain that...
I'd say everyone is good only in the respect that i don't believe in 'evil'. Everyone is a product of their environment, but that being said i wouldn't want prisons abolished as there is certainly a need to keep some people away from the population at large. As an aside, good seems like a pretty weak opposing force to evil. Good is barely above neutral, and can't compare with great or awesome. I propose we change the old saying "Good Vs Evil" to "Awesome Vs. Evil"
The Holocaust was awesome. Very literally. It was a genocidal travesty inspiring awe. Awesome. Also I'm not interested in a debate on verbiage here.
I agree. children are fudamentally good and from the source and in due time become slaves to the ego. by "good" i assume we're talking about lives happily despite circumstances and wishes no ill fortune on others...this is in the heart of everyone but we stray from it and inherit values that are inconsistent with it. the things we teach kids need to be followed by adults or the kids won't believe it. seriously, watch sesame street and try to think of any adult who actually behaves in a way that sesame street teaches
"It was an allegory for a vapid detached modern lifestyle that separates us from our basic humanity." This makes you a bad person?
There was hardly a debate intention, merely a proposal that should be pushed through to the highest levels, and passed unanimously sans debate. What is there to debate? Clearly my logic is flawless.
I said, in quotes for you. "just think people get distracted very easily by you're MTV's and your bling and what have have you. " Which I needed to elaborate for you as: "a vapid detached modern lifestyle that separates us from our basic humanity." A detachment from our basic humanity is 'bad' in my moral universe. Anything that makes you callous to the physical and emotional needs of others on a large scale is bad. Having a myopic view on the human condition because you're caught up in a life of excess consumption is bad, in my view. I think this is the emotional state of most people in the west. Basically good, but caught up in a vain myopic lifestyle that draws their attention away from what is really important.
