i just dislike the rampant consumerism. and the dogmatic religions. otherwise i love the season of giving.
Christmas is what you make it. If you want to see it as a blatant consumer driven rip-off, then you have no heart. It is a time for kids. How can you dislike a day that brings smiles to so many childrens' faces? There is magic in the air at this time of year.
thats one of the very few reasons i deal with christmas. i love seeing my child watching the lights, and opening his presents.
Because Christmas is a lie. It was stolen from the Roman Pagans by Constantine I and the Council of Nicea. Christ was born in JULY. December 25th was Mithras, a holiday to honor the Roman god Mithra before the 4th century. It's all fact, look it up. And 1600 years of lies doesn't make it a valid holiday just because it makes a bunch of brats smile. Silly Christians...
What is a valid holiday anyways? If a lie can bring people together and give them a reason to celebrate, then we should make up more of these. I enjoy them.
i have no strong feelings for it one way or the other. it's just a day. hell, i don't even hate valentine's day, and i consider christmas to be much more innocuous than that.
I know and don't actually care about the origins of the holiday. If you want to be cynical, most Holidays are for ridiculous or often offensive reasons(Thanksgiving for example).
i like the way you think... hey baby, we were actually married in a past life. lets get together and celebrate with this bottle of wine and this box of condoms. :cheers2:
You dont need to give me examples, I know. I guess it depends the people who we have around. I have nothing but nice memories from Christmas, so Im biased
It feels like a cheap excuse to get together with your family. Families that are truly close shouldn't need such excuses.
