I recently picked up The Modern Dance. This is a great album. Any fan of new wave that considers themselves into avant-garde music absolutely has to check them out. They achieve the perfect combination between garage rock and electronic noise, employing David Thomas' warbly, high, eccentric vocals over chaotic synth'n guitar noise creating a chaotic industrial feedbacky version of punk, too far out to be put on the same level as, say, The Clash. If you take that Krautrock sound (Can, Faust, Kraftwerk, etc.), mix in some Captain Beefheart-esque abstract garage rock, and maybe a bit of Parable Of Arable Land era Red Krayola noise, you have this album. Five stars!
