PETITION AGAINST MURDERING ARTIST - There's an artist, Nathalia Edenmont, who kills cats, mice, doves, RABBITS, and other animals, mutilates their bodies, and then takes their photographs. She's on exhibit, among other places, at the Wetterling Gallery in Sweden. She has taken the top halves of five white mice and made them into finger puppets. She beat a cat to death with a stick. And this is called art. This is not only inhumane, but morally reprehensible. The chances are she thinks that its artistic to shock people ... I reckon someone should make her into a human art exhibit by impaling her on a big fucking spike
by all means make your art but and this is a big but, do it humanely. sadly i found the mice picture u posted rather funny.
that i am, but her reasoning makes sence and it's nothing new. at least the article supplied didn't mention taping any killings. i think i've spent too much time in an art class edit: so someone gives me bad rep for disagreeing, sad, i guess i'll have to conform now
It doesn't quite make sense to me: If she is raising questions about Western moral hypocrisy and highlighting animal suffering, by causing more animal suffering just to make the point, isn't that itself rather hypocritical?
http://www.artdaily.com/section/news/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=11877 if this is art, then that would mean that you can't really define wat art is. wat she's done is gotten a debate going on if this is right. she wanted a reaction and she got it.
Killing animals is not a way to start a debate about whether killing animals is right ... that's like saying spanking children is a way to raise debate about whether it's OK to hit kids... The justification simply doesn't hold true. It's not a way to raise a debate. Let's call it what it is - it's using a cheap shock tactic and dressing it up with a high-sounding but entirely hypocritical justification. That said, it's the gallery who put that spin on it, not the artist herself.
Is it art? ..... yes. Is it morally right? .... to me? no. However that doesnt prevent it being art. The images are distressingly beautiful. They are powerful and all and at first glance the article is right some of them are beautiful... beauitufly eerie. However it is the knowlege of HOW she did them that disgusts us. The fact is if it was done with photoshop there would not be this uproar and no one would dissagree that it was art or not. I have potitioned against it because yes i think it is wrong. There was one of those images however i did really like (if it was what i thought it was) and that was the perfect yolk on the flower..... i thought that was quite clever and incredibly hard to acheive.
taxidermy. if you protest the artist you might as well protest all taxidermists. isn't that art also? i live in an area full of fishermen, hunters and trappers so this doesn't bug me as much as you guys. but we're all have different opinions and leave my rep alone
Art has been going in this direction now for quite some time... have we forgotten dear old Damien's cows so quickly?... and artists now seem to be stuck in a terrible trap whereby they can only create for the value of the shock it creates... and they justify the shock it creates through some hyperbolic rhetoric that covers up the general vacuousness that exists for brains in the heads of many of these contemporary artists... In the mid 90s, Bowie released a concept lp called 1.Outside that was based around the idea of art murders... this now worryingly seems one step closer to coming true... Fly...
MEISHKA fraid i feel a lowering of the tone coming on .. you stupid fuck! honestly! Try as you like I cannot see anyway of justifying this should you even feel the need.
i'm not justifying anything, just giving a point of view different from others. how is that wrong? and why lash out like that? ~the stupid fuck
It is so sad, so sickening and truly downheartening that some people are not affected by seeing such pointless death anymore. Indeed it appears that some point see the need to create such pointless death. Jesus... It is true, it does get a reaction, but for gods sake it is a reaction at the price of life Love, Sunny xxx
