any advice from more experienced bongo players? I've got the basics down, but I want to be able to play proficiently on the bongos. I understand it's not a solo instrument or anything like that, I just need some tips, links to a tutorial, or something to help me improve. I'm wanting to make some simple reggae music with just bongo/guitar/vocals. Any help is much appreciated.

i got into bongos by listening to santana's "soul sacrifice" from woodstock. cliche, i know  i really dont know many if any bongoists.... i just try to emulate drumming patterns i hear (on any percussion instrument, not just bongos), and make my own from there...
if you want to get into some damn technical percussion, listen to idris muhammad.... whenever i pick up a new instrument i try to emulate the toughest and most technical players of that instrument. once you can do that everything else will be easy...

    not very helpful :| sorry

Hope this helps but ebay is your best bet if you want to sell them.
If you want to make reggae music with them, my best advice is to join a reggae band and become really good at playing them. Then when you are the best musician in your band, sack them and join a really good band and become famous. You may find that you make more money selling them on ebay though than by persuing a career in music - just depends how good you get at playing them

well I hope that helps - oh check out a musician on the web called "ali bongo"
    Brilliant

I never said I wanted to pursue a career in music. I just want to jam with some friends. I play the guitar so I'd probably be playing that anyways, and pass on the bongos to somebody else. But that's besides the point. Thanks for the advice anyways I guess.

thanks for the advice, wave_owls. I'll look up 'soul sacrifice' and idris muhammad.
