i play both. Its not the same because it has a diferent tuning but once you become accustomed to the basic pattern in terms of scales and chords, youll find a similarity between the two. Id highly reccomend it. It only took mee around a week to learn most of the chords and a few scales.

you both have it right, you're just saying it mix-matched. the correct way to say it is EADG. you could say gdae, but that's backwards.

yeah, forest 420, you should get a mandolin. any chance to learn a new instrument is one to be taken. i had a mandolin for a while and it was cool, sold it back for a banjo though. mandolin isn't extremely difficult to learn, especially if you already play another string instrument. i play guitar primarily, then got a bass, then mandolin, then banjo, so it wasn't too bad for me. the hardest part is getting used to the new scales and chords due to the tuning, but it's not too bad and it's a fun learning experience. go for it.

mandolin is a very easy progression if you can already play guitar as much of the style is the same

its tuned different to a guitar because the mandolin is a member of the violin familly and therefore has the violin tuning of E-A-D-G bottom to top
