http://in.news.yahoo.com/indianexpress/20080423/r_t_ie_nl_general/tnl-five-killed-40-injured-in-chittoor-s-aaaedd4.html Horrible really. These Amma-Bhagavan characters that claim to be incarnations of laxmi Sriman Narayana should be put in jail . No offense, but this is not what the sages of the past , the great people like Valmiki wanted hinduism to be. THis is not what Vashista hoped people would do. Don't believe in false Gods. Realize God, not belive in stupid outside stuff and get involved in cults. Please please please , if people want to be interested in Hinduism , steer away from all the cults. RUN as FAST as YOU CAN from ANYONE WHO CLAIMS TO BE A GOD. SHEESH
That is sad to know... may those people have safe passage. You know its kind of interesting...Swami Tyaganandaji was giving a talk to a bunch of us yesterday and he was talking about inner and outer Hinduism...and how so many people are all about looking Hindu and acting Hindu on the outside but how if you don't really have the inner spiritual life, or at least are sincerely trying to really transform yourself inwards...than all the outer stuff is kind of hollow...you know? So it almost leads to the other question...it seams that the things you say above are not what it means to be Hindu...so what does it mean? Inner, outer, and then some...?
Well I am just saying Hinduism is not about a blind belief in some human being who considers himself God, thats all i am saying. For me though , I have no idea what Hinduism is for me, I am confused as I always am. Anyway , its all good. All I am saying is that people get unnecessarily hurt through fake gurus, and it doesn't have to be that way.
I think it's the same with all religions - people just go through the motions outwardly whilst they stay the same inside. I'd say what's needed is to find a balance between the outer and inner life, and to harmonize them.

There are many fakers out there, but that shouldn't blind us to the fact that there are also genuine gurus and spiritual personalities also. How to tell the true from the false? I suppose it all comes down to karma, and to the sincerity of one's seeking for the divine. Is it the divine people really want , or to be part of a 'club'? It seems that if a teacher is asking you for money, or saying they are the only 'enlightened' one or whatever, you do well to avoid that person. The last thing we need on the earth at this time is more divisive cults.
