I am currently searching for books and authors commenting on individuality, positive thinking, soul searching etc. Positive and inspirational material is the main thing I'm going for, but I would also love some suggestions of books on philosophy, and/or hippy ideals. Thanks for your input!
I rather enjoyed Remember Be Here Now (1971) by Baba Ram Das (Richard Alpert) a contemporary of Timothy Leary who got into Eastern Philosophy with an Indian guru. (The cover is actually blue)
Love As a Way of Life by Gary Chapman. I love this little book. It's full of thoughts and suggestions for becoming a kinder, more loving human being. I believe that love is the most powerful force in the universe, and in fact is the key to survival of the human species. The basic idea is that love is much more than just an emotion ... it's an action. Love is something you do, as well as something you feel. And kindess is an attitude that transforms your life. Good luck in your search
@The dope I love the moody blues! lol But I'm looking more for reading material for some writing I'm doing. And also for reading material in general, its always good to get more insight on life. and @ Grannylonghair, I completely agree with you, I think that would be a book I would definitely be interested in, thanks for the suggestion! Got a little list going here
"The Tao of Physics" by Fritjoff Capra (I hope I spelled that name right). It explores the parrallells between eastern philosophy and sub atomic physics. Not strictly hippie but it has certain ramafications to hippie philosophy. Peace Out, Rev J
Strongly second Be Here Now. Especially if you're into psychedelics. Half the book is actually designed to be read while 'altered'. The Alchemist. Electric Koolaid Acid Test. Anything by Tom Robbins, but especially Another Roadside Attraction. Second Robert Anton Wilson, also the Illuminati Trilogy by him. The Celestine Prophecy. Way of the Peaceful Warrior. For more scientific mindset: Godel, Escher, Bach. For more way out there: the works of Carlos Castenada. Anything by the Dalai Lama or Krishnamurti The works of Herman Hesse Dharma Bums or On The Road, Jack Kerouac Works of Hunter S Thompson Many others...
