Often i see many people pouring their hearts through their poetry and then the people listening just go "That was shit" It really hurts me to see this, especially when somebody is suffering from depression and then people just laugh at them... Why cant everyone be open minded to everyone's feelings?
i'd say its the extreamly poor state of moderation in this forum myself... negative critisism isnt exceptable, critisism is supposed to develop poetry and the poet! i completely agree with you!
But thats what im saying, people saying "oh that was shit" isnt critisism its simply ignorance. We need constructive critism....
iunno i just wished people would comment on mine...makes me feel like it uberly sucks if they don't haha
i just think a lot of people post on here occasional poems which for want of a better word are rubbish, but people shouldnt be afraid to say "hey, you could improve this by doing this this and this"
i've messaged the big moderater dude about this. not skip...the other one just hope something happens about it the poetry forum does need some sort of code of ethics check out the uk arts and crafts forum where i moderate we have a code of practise which all our users go by this is the uk arts and crafts forum: http://hipforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=127 this is our manifesto: http://hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41610
People get flamed by regular poetry forum posters when they say something like this. Nobody in here knows how to take any kind of criticism at all, so the ones who do get criticism that they do not agree with end up whining about it, overexaggerating (aw boohoo, that man said that my poetry sucks), etc etc, when all they really need to do is 1) grow up and 2) don't post if you cant handle criticism.
thats exactly why we need a manifesto stellablues last contact with this forum was 05-15-2004 thats over a year ago the last post on the forums as a whole was november, the way i see it is that this forum is an extreamly active one, which needs propper moderation and a propper manafesto that everyone can understand and post by which lays out the point of things like constructive critisism.
By the way... your guyses poetry probably isn't getting criticized because nobody can see any kind of way to make it better. Not saying that its as good as can be... I'm saying the opposite. There's just some poetry that cant be constructively criticized because some people just don't know how to write.
I disagree. Quite strongly, in fact. I think it more along the lines that you can’t imagine how to offer constructive criticism to what you consider poorly executed poetry. Even if it comes down to the entire poem being cliché and boring, and in need of a total revision; there’s good and bad ways to say that. If you were a member of other active poetry forums that operate on critiquing, you would (or should) know this. The reason people don’t get full blown constructive criticism, imo, is because nobody asks for it specifically. There’s no rules or guidelines, so this is basically a place to share your poetry. Offer criticism to someone who doesn’t want it, and they might very well complain, and be totally justified in doing so. Some people just want encouragement. It’s hard to share something that’s intimate to them, even if it doesn’t appear so to you. Admitting that you hate life and wish you were dead, for example, isn’t exactly something most are really proud of, and poetry is often a good (not to mention healthy) way to get it out. It takes guts to share it, but a lot of people want to because they find sympathetic people and don’t feel so alone/unjustified in feeling that way. Now if they actually want to improve at the art of poetry itself, the best way to do that is to ask. It’d be awesome if there was a subsection of the poetry forum for people who want to be critiqued, but there’s not. So all anybody can do is ask, and hope they receive, as constructive criticism isn’t an expected thing around here.
But telling people that their poetry sucks isnt realy critism, why cant they acutally say something that can actually help people improve it, instead of just attacking it and not backing it up with an explination
