Me: im so sick of looking for a job
    Brother: ah. ok, good luck
    brother: yeah
brother: the job market here does suck.
    me: sucks everywhere i hear
brother: i need to find another one today
me: theres been a lot of complaints about not enuf jobs lately
brother: yeah. good ol bush and his trickel down economy

    me: reaganomics
brother: yeah, people who think he was a god amaze me.
    me: hes dead now.
brother: ive heard several people trying to convince me that the great economy under clinton was regans doing or bushs..
    me: same here
    me: those people are retarded
me: they say it takes time
me: if thats the case than any economic rise we get from bush must be the result of clinton (and the economy didnt fall because of the tax cuts to the rich and the money we spend on war/"defense")
brother: i know...so i am supposed to believe that it took 4-16 years for the thing to work? thats bs. and its a just a coincidence that the economy didnt flourish til we have a dem. in office?
    me: yeah
me: someone who raised minimum wage
me: and had all these programs for the poor
brother: yeah.. its just republicans trying to justify themselves
    me: yep.
me: than eventually you can out argue them
me: and than they blame(all your credible sources, arguments) on the liberal media
me: and you get no where
brother: because you can always say that the economy will eventually be better
    me: haha.
    brother: ha..yeah..liberal media..
brother: that damned liberal media that attacked bush so frequently..
    me: haha.
me: people use like bias news sources as a way to discredit everything in them
me: but really a bias is just like someone writing the report with a position for/against whatever they are writing about
me: doesnt mean its completely false
    brother: yeah.
me: republicans tend to do a good job ignoring everything though.
brother: i had someone telling me that hilliry clinton was involved with the black panthers when she was in college
brother: the only source that could claim that online was some right wing bs website.
    me: lol
    me: who cares anyway
    brother: people are so stupid.
me: black panthers were the shit
    brother: yeah.
me: people tell me all the time hillary clinton is a socialist
me: and that the democratic party leans more toward socialism
    me: man i wish
    me: that would be awesome.
    brother: yeah. i wish

brother: i love how people will claim media to be liberal. and then at the same time the media will use the word liberal like its a curse
    me: yeah haha

Thanks. I'm writing a screenplay, and I have two vacuous stoner characters and I was having trouble writing realistic dialogue that would occur between two guys who talk about shit they don't understand in the slightest. :p

Right on, bro! You helped me out big-time!

    Blue skies,

You are such a fucking hypocrite. You come here offering absolutely nothing except excuses and insults, but yet you try to tell us that we're closed-minded? It's like, when you can't blame all of it on the "liberal" media you instead try to discredit someone by accusing them of being drugged up. That's really low, and only goes to prove your own lack of a justifiable, reasonable argument.

I fucking hate it when people do that, you try and start a nice discussion, and if you say something that doesn't jibe with their world-view they just start flaming (and i'm not being partisan here, the lefties do this too, only they are alot better at it :) ) without actually contributing to the overall conversation of the thread, it's just plain ignorant and rude.

People like that should be banned from voting.

Unemployment in the US is 5.6%. That compares to 9.8% in France and 10.5% in Germany (countries which "lean more towards socialism", which would be "awesome"), and is 9.0% for Europe as a whole. 5.6% is a pretty normal rate when looking at the US economy over the last few decades.

If you can't find a job the problem isn't that "the job market here sucks".

I was thinking Point have you the figures on how much of US employment is military orientated? I mean the US spends some 400 billion on ‘defence’ or around 4% of GDP, France and Germany spend nothing like that. I mean I’ve heard that in some places whole town economies are dependant a military base or related employer.

Also the number of prisoners per 100,000 population in the United States is 700 in Germany that figures is 95 and in France it’s 80 That is an area they could increase employment possibilities, plus those locked up and not claiming benefit.

Nope, have no such figures handy. Nor do I have figures on the vast armies of social workers and employees of state corporations in Europe.

But my argument is not WHY the US has lower unemployment, it is that Mui needs to find another excuse.

I live very close to Fort Benning, GA....they proclaim to be the "largest Infantry training center in the free world" though i don't know how true this is. anyway, I can tell you that the surrounding cities would be almost non-existant without the base.

Nope, have no such figures handy. Nor do I have figures on the vast armies of social workers and employees of state corporations in Europe.

So are you saying that the US does not have any social services employees? (oh no don’t tell the Libertarians I mean whose jobs are they to get ride of)

But let us look at your two examples and mine.

I took prisons and military you social workers and ‘employees of state corporations’ (nationalised industries?)

Most prisoners contribute little to a society you could exploit some of them economically as cheap labour but doesn’t that mean that a ‘real’ job is taken from the market, while being in fact not cheap and possibly bringing down wages in that area across the board? But on the whole they do little while locked away and the custodians watch.

Why does the US have way over 6 times more prisoners than Europe? To me it would seem that there is something wrong with the system? Maybe if the US had the social frameworks (including social workers) that Europe has they could get the numbers down? The thing is that most people working in such social work are contributing to that society in some way, helping the sick, protecting children, helping people from committing crime and a wide range of other activities.

Outside of war most military personnel don’t do much for society while in there tour of duty. Oh people can and do us the military as an educational or training tool but those skills are only available to the wider society after the tour or during emergencies.

The most famous "state corporation" in France would probably be the SNCF the national rail service. It is generally viewed as the best rail service in the world, contributes vastly to the French economy and I’m told even makes a profit. Or there is Renault which also makes a profit.

Any how many industries and corporations in the US are getting by on US military money? And although those prison guards that don’t work directly for the US government the corporations that they do work for are dependent on tax payers money and they ‘make’ a profit? Now SNCF move private freight and people and makes a profit and Renault sell a product and make a profit and these prison companies take public money and make a private profit?

Again, you are trying to gently nudge the debate from "Unemployment is lower in the US, therefore Mui should be able to find a job" to "Let's look at ways that lower unemployment in the US shows that the US is bad", because you want every thread to be about how the US is bad.

If you want to start a thread on Europe vs. the US, fine. But the profitability of Renault is a long way from Mui's job prospects.
