I guess you don't mean currently popular, since that first one is from 1972, the golden age of Canadian folk rock. How about this one from Gordon Lightfoot:
Right. All time popular) music originating from Canada's recording artists - any genre (rock, pop, country, folk, easy - whatever). I thought of naming the thread 'Music: The Canadian Connection' and I'm wishing now I had. Can the title be changed to that?
I think your title is fine. You could edit your first post and explain what you mean, then again, you just did!
Oh this video is Classic! The set and costumes are psychedelic. Michelle is eating a banana between verses! I still want Denny's shirt since I first saw it in the 60s.
Why did I put the mamas and papas here? Were any of them Canadian? Damn! I just checked, Denny Doherty was from Nova Scotia, yay! That's why I ended up with the mamas and papas, I was looking up this other California song: Joni Mitchell - California
The Stratford Festival production of "The Gondoliers" is outstanding. What is the connection between Gilbert and Sullivan and Canada.
An opera company in Toronto (The Toronto Light Opera Association) specialized in performances of G & S back in the 1940's. It closed its doors in 1955.
I always assumed that G&S was limited to the UK, since all the operettas were a send up of our government. The example that caused the most controversy was HMS Pinafore. It was written following a politician who had never set foot on a ship, being appointed as the first lord of the admiralty. Some of the lines are hilarious. Of legal knowledge I acquired such a grip That they took me into the partnership. And that junior partnership, I ween, Was the only ship that I ever had seen..... But that kind of ship so suited me, that now I am the Ruler of the Kings Navee! I always voted at my parties call and I never thought of thinking for myself at all..... I thought so little that they rewarded me, by making me the ruler of the Kings navy.
