    You come from
that place that calls to me
like the penguins that travel back
to the beach where they were born
    3000 miles away

You remind me of the deep insides of a cave
    Almost prehistoric
    No TVs or churches there

I don't quite remember how to get there
but I know I could get back
    Call it ancestral memory

    I know that
you are not free of the ties that bind
or that you may not know what we were like inside that cave
    but you remind me
that I could go there, if I wanted

    It's in my ancestral memory
    somewhere it guides

    I know how,
    and it terrifies

This is my first go at this. I know it could use a lot of cleaning up, but I'd really appreciate some feedback.

    Thanks!

    frida kahlo stares at me
from the cover of her coffee table book

    she seems so free
    that soulful look reveals
    an endless sensuality

    On the other hand
    a piercing abyss
    of sorrow and pain

at the hands of a crook
    who by pulling the strings
took the source of her veins

Very original thought and visuals. I especially like the Frida Kahlo one. Simple and the rhyme is not overpowering. Please keep posting. On the first one, my suggestion would be to start with the penguins...

You call to me like that.
