Prince says the internet has gone from hip and cool to outdated, just like MTV in the 1990s. That's why his new CD (20Ten) is not being released online for downloading, and his official web site has been shut down. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks this whole online thing is way past its prime. Most websites are nothing but bullshit, lies, and corporate ads. Will he get anybody to go back to a record store and buy his CD? I think I will do it.
I was so disappointed by his last album that I'm not surprised he's frustrated with sales. I wish he had never become a Jehovah's Witness. I liked him better nasty.
lolololol take it from tha future generation, the internet is just starting. Websites, online based media downloads (music, movies, youtube, DVD/iPhone/MP3 tools, etc) marketing+sales, and even new jobs are added to the internet every day. The internet is nothing but a huge database updated my millions of people like us and it can't be outdated cause we keep it dated. Lol it's like saying facebook, youtube, twitter, and social networking is over. Cell phones are even all now made for use with social networking on the internet...e.g all iPhones
Or perhaps he is just a great at getting the publicity he needs for his new work without allowing it to be downloaded. He is very known for control of his own work......I think it is a marketing ploy. His statements were flashed all over just as this is being released. He did the same thing with the artist formerly known as.......
None of that stuff is going away. Nothing ever goes away anymore. We still have MTV, regular telephones, and even letters sent through the mail. They just aren't cutting edge anymore. They aren't a big deal to anybody. Every technology ends up that way eventually. Now you're catching on. He got us talking about him, without spending a cent on advertising. He knew his statement would be controversial. I'm more interested in the rebellion against iTunes, going back to CD-only distribution. Will it backfire? Will others try it? Will Prince be happy with smaller sales numbers, if he makes more profit per copy sold? I do think it's time to admit the obvious, that the internet isn't a novelty or an exciting new toy anymore. It's just another tool that people use, like a thousand other things in modern life. It's time to stop drooling over it. Just like TV, it's loaded with mediocrity.
Last time I checked you can't put your entire music , picture, art, and resume collection in the tv. That sort of mediocre entertainment you are referring to makes up a small percentage of what the Internet is. We would not be having this discussion right now if not for the Internet. It has the ability of giving you say and is expressive. The words you use, the posts you respond to, your signature picture, your avatar, all say something. In the bigger scope the Internet is the first time in history where you could potentially raise, and teach a kid without one hint of authoritative (meant as in professional) viewpoint. I'm not saying that's realistic necessarily or even good, but its possible. I mean one could theoretically receive the bulk of news and information from this website even.
I more than agree, not only is it loaded with mediocrity, it's foreshortened and intensified mediocrity. ...and now we's all mediocre too... ZW
I love Prince, but this is completely untrue. If the internet is past it's prime, & you agree, why are you here on Hip Forums? Why are forums like this constantly growing? Saying the internet is completely over is about as stupid as it gets. I don't see the internet ever really going anywhere.
