when you put them in the PC you probably over cooked them/ they got to hot/losing moisture content.. if all the jars are black mold then throw them away. some people say clean them up and use them again. (FUCK THAT) ,, once you open them you have released billions of black mold spores and it will contaminate all your grows in the future.,
Word up. Over at shroomery tons of peoples grows are "always" contam'd and then in the end it turns out it's cause they exposed the mold into their environment (Which is usually made to accelerate the growth of spores). This happens just by opening the lid. I find this awesome as hell but your mushrooms stand no chance.
Contamination happens. What Im concerned about is exactly what happened to the dry verm layer? You say you never opened the lid, there is no reason that the dry verm layer would get mixed into the substrate unless you shook the jars. When you go to dispose of the contaminated cakes, take some bleach with you and wear a mask over you mouth to avoid breathing in something like mucor (black mold) which can lead to some horrible side effects (like a disease that eats your skin). Dump the jars out and poor bleach into them asap. let the, sit somewhere for a day or two. Everything inside should be dead by then. Just go forth and try again, don't sit your jars near a fan. Turbulent air is unnecessary.
