Hi,everyone. I am a 24-year-old boy from China. I am going to apply for admission to an American university. But I have no idea about the climates of different areas of the country. Which city or which state has a climate most suitable for going barefoot? In terms of climate, campus culture and barefooter-friendliness, any recommendable university or college? Thanks a lot.
well I live in california and berkeley is pretty barefoot friendly. I think they'd make you put on shoes inside the college but they never kick anyone out of restaurants or stores (well, one time I got kicked out of a crappy bar, but that was different lol) There's also never really any broken glass bottles in major city areas either
You mean it's not allowed to go barefoot on campus? What if i do go around without shoes inside the college?
You could definitely walk around on campus outside at any college in the country, just not inside the buildings at most if not all of them. If you do it anyways (and more power to you), some prissy old white woman with a floral pattern dress and nothing better to do with her time will probably come up to you and ask you to leave. That's how it is in just about every major metropolitan city in the US. In america you sacrifice sanity and freedom for money so think about which you'd rather have
Well, i think i can put up with that, as long as outdoor barefooting is possible. But how can the "prissy old white woman" u mentioned be so sharp-eyed to notice a single barefooter in a large building? Is there a CCTV surveillance system? And what about in the dormitory buildings?
In my honest opinion, your choise for an American university should not depend on the climate or barefooter- friendliness. Walking barefoot is great but there is more in life than that.
The women I'm referring to is what I like to call a "ma'am", they have laser sharp vision and a big chip on their shoulders. I wear giant pants that pretty much cover up my feet until I start walking and ma'ams and sirs STILL catch me and throw me out of just about every store (Except the grocery stores, I never get kicked out of those...wonder why) I've been kicked out of every single sit down restaurant I walk in to, even ones where I was just trying to get take out and leave. Kicked out of bus station, AND kicked out of a bookstore. If I want to do anything, my literal only option is to go outside. But I'm a militant NEVER wear shoes type barefooter so your mileage may vary Americans will judge you by the clothes you wear and will look you up and down before even talking to you, if they find something they don't like there's a 70% chance they will start shit with you. I wouldn't, and a lot of other chill americans wouldn't, but they usually aren't the ones in college or the workforce
Agreed. To the max. I'm going to get my 100% barefooting time out of my system this summer before I start freshman year.
You're right. Walking barefoot is a simple and primitive joy. It would be naive to be obsessed by such a simple and primitive joy in a complex and highly-developed world. But how can i do without it?
i recommend you do not go to university and instead climb a tree. or, alternatively, select a university based on its academic merits.
I can't help laughing while hearing your dreadful experiences. I admire you for your sheer persistence. You never argued with them? Here in china people are a lot more indifferent to public barefooting. They may view it as being weird or funny, but more often than not they would do nothing about it. They may ask about it out of curiosity. But they seldom show strong disapproval of it. Perhaps they don't bother to do so. (Or is it that the Chinese people are shyer?) By the way, you are 20 y/o?
like swampy. it was a little joke, is all. i wish you luck with your endeavors here, but my advice is to just grin and bare it when things like education or employment are concerned. if they don't mind, great but if they do, don't put a good education at risk.
Yeah I've been known to get into some heated arguments with ma'ams People here view weird as evil most of the time and yeah I'm 20, I'll be 21 in april
I‘ve come up with a way to deal with ma'ams. That's to play a game of cat and mouse with them with a pair of flipflops in your bag. And given the small age gap between us and the same bug by which we've been bitten, we can make friends with each other and see what we can do together about it.
