$1.2 billion for a down payment? Shit for a fence that is 700 miles long in the middle of nowhere? Oh come on a fence in down town NY does not stop ppl and there are ppl all over there, how the hell is a fence in the middle of nowhere gonna work?

If its that big of an issue for national security shit run some high powered rifles out there, shoot those crossing over, leave there corpse to rot and it surely would slow down the flow of people attempting to get over here. Is that a good idea, shit no but either is a fence.

I did like how Bush implied that there was a need for the Republicans to reamin holding the majority to be sure everything would go thru, lol

$1.2 billion, damn what a waste of money.

Like someone else said, save some money by having illegals build it. :)

Could never allow that, for numerous reasons:

    (1) It might actually work and then what would we do to skim money out of the budget for homeland security to pay for political BS?

    (2) Would cost more becuase we would have to pay off the goverment workers unions for not being able to do the job.

    (3) The work that the illegals were doing like picking crops would stop while they were building out fence, crops would rot and prices would soar.

    (4) Who would they get to clean the homes and cars of politicians then?

I'm going to take a wild guess here.....politicians? Wait, they have enough trouble running the country, I could only imagine how well they would clean. It's a better idea just to go out and buy a whole new car.

The federal government used to have free money for minorities in a program called 'historically underutilized business'. The program may be still going. If you had a business for 5 years and it was 'underutilized', you could get free money.

If a business is underutilized for 5 years, what's the sense? Find another market where you can make some real money.

Then again, why not intentionally start a bogus business and let it sit for 5 years doing nothing. Then collect some money. :)

I recall a story that Molly Ivins tells. During the Reagan years, there were plans for another fence. So, they built a 20 ft. section from the proposed plans and had a "Over, Under or Through Fence Crossing Contest" at the El Paso county fair. The prize was a case of Lone Star beer. The record was 30 seconds.

30 seconds for climbing the fence or for drinking the case of beer?

    (both?)

No one thinks it's going to make a real difference. It's a ploy to activate the right just before an election. Imigration is already being addressed under the SPP. Who are we really fooling. The folks and media that refuse to talk about this program and legislation? The administration has already outlined and agreed on immigration policies with Canada and Mexico. Policies the American people in general have no knowledge of, or say in.

We are in for a "rolling harvest of accomplishments". My question would be who appoints and oversees these Ministerial-led working groups? I thought the American public elected their officials.:

I'd say there will be several more immigration protests in the near future, and the fence of course will be a major issue at the demonstrations.

There was a project called the Super Collider in Texas back in the 90s. A few billion of tax money was spent digging a giant circular tunnel. The project was terminated mid-way through it and nothing useful ever came of it. Just a big wasteful public works project.

What ever happened about that plan to build a giant moat/wall around Baghdad to keep the insurgents out?
