There are too many people into psychedelic art without any connection with psychedelics... Some of them are actually against psychedelics... wtf? All true psychedelic art comes from psychedelics... you can't like product and hate maker... Much of psychedelic art is actually made "just" to enjoy psychedelics more... You can't ever truly understand that art without right state of mind and that state you get through right drugs... I find psychedelic art, artistic expression of modern use of entheogens... There is no psychedelic art without its source and goal...
I sort of agree. It's difficult to take an artist doing psychedelic art who has never hallucinated seriously. The hallucinations, both open-eyed and closed-eyed are the inspiration of psychedelic art, right?
I cant paint. I know what I like to see. I dont even know how to answer this myself.. when I first did acid my painting and drawings were inspired by Playing Cards.. I never seen much So called Psychedelic art at the time.. But I wanted to melt the patterns on the playing cards, I didnt paint much when I was first into psychedelics but thats all we had.. You cant imagine people trip without drugs?..
i've never done acid.. but i always get asked if i have after someone sees some of my work.. chinese kids don't wear nikes... but they still make them.
the first time i did mushrooms--took me back to a trip in Mexico where i asked my mom --How did they make those patterns on the rug-where did they get the idea? and while on the shrooms years later i saw similar patterns on the white wall--and said to myself "oooh they saw the patterns" and copied them----right on
That's not psychedelic art. That's poker art or something. Psychedelic art is inspired by all hallucinations from drugs and the inspiration for the art is more important than the product. Psychedelic art is a lot more than just patterns too.
i don't really care about labeling or judging the art. i either enjoy looking at it or i don't. i find it interesting or not. etc.
I suppose dreaming would be the main source of inspiration for them if they weren't using drugs...or other psychedelic art...
I feel like psychedelic artists whose influence is other psychedelic art are inauthentic. However there's still some merit to their work.
so art is only authentic if it's inspired by something other than art that already exists? is any art original? is all of it? i'd be pretty flattered as an artist if my work inspired someone else's.
I'm only commenting on psychedelic art. For me, psychedelic art is only authentic if it's inspired by the hallucinations from psychedelic drugs, because that's the inspiration for psychedelic art. An artist who is mimicking psychedelic art is not an authentic psychedelic artist, however their work is not necessarily completely without merit.
is it psychedelic because the artist took psychedelics or because people enjoy looking at them while on psychedelics? that is the real question... :toetap05:
Why? All a drug does is reveal the potential that is already in your mind. So, if this art and this way of perception is already in your mind, why does an artist need a foreign chemical in order to express himself psychedelically?
Art for me is also part of a communication of ideas and experiences between the artist and the fan. If the artist hasn't had those experiences it becomes somewhat trivial. And psychedelic drugs are an experience in themselves that someone who hasn't done them hasn't had. Someone who has never done acid certainly hasn't experienced the awe and twisted splendour of psychedelic hallucinations.
A close friend of mine who's seen my work and spoken with me on the subject was surprised I've never done acid and says i would love it. i want to try it someday, just a matter of getting ahold of some good acid.
It's great if you will take psychedelics but everybody who are into psychedelic art and say drugs don't have nothing with good psychedelic art...yea right... Maybe you can copy some true artist or make your art look psychedelic....but it's fake... Some of fake artists are actually against drugs... rofl... Also it is funny when someone loves some band that is all about drugs and is against drugs and would never take them...lol...
Well there's more than one part to art. There's the technique and presentation, the pure aesthetics, and then there are the ideas, meanings and the sharing of experiences and emotions. Somebody can like the sound of a band's music but not relate to their lyrics, and somebody can enjoy the aesthetics and technique of an artist, even though there is no personal expression or the artist or even if they don't derive any meaning from it. Of course for me and psychedelic art, I'm looking for that psychedelic rapport with the artist. They're sharing their psychedelic experiences with me, and that's something that can't happen unless the artist is inspired by psychedelic hallucinations and psychological experiences. Although psychedelic art is a bit of an oddity because much of the meaning and experience part of the art is aesthetic in nature. And so I'll never say that art that is inspired by authentic psychedelic art is completely without merit.
this is a very interesting argument my boyfriend has come up with. has it all been said and done? is there anything left to explore? I think there may be more. I think as new medias and forms of expression come about, new art will come about.
In my opinion, the point of art in all forms is to express an emotion, event, or experience. You get that most with writing--"Write what you know," the like. I don't really swing with that, but I'm applying it here. While I don't think psychedelic art that is not directly a product of psychedelics is inauthentic, per se, I do think it has less strength and meaning to it, it's just something pretty to look at.
