Hey everyone, in these past couple of days I've been searching for videos online of how to knit. They've helped A LOT, but there's still a pretty big problem I'm facing with it... I'll try to explain it clearly- Just say that I'm trying to knit a square that is 5x5 stitches. My first row is 5 stitches, but when I finish my second row I realize there are 6 stitches, and the next row has 7 stitches and so on...So by the time I finish my 'square' ends up being 5x10 stitches. I don't really understand what I'm doing wrong...I'd really like to start knitting some cool stuff but this is really holding me back. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
you are picking up stitches somewhere, but without being able to watch you knit, I can't tell you where you are doing it. Are there any craft stores in your area that offer aid? Or any knitters? Why not go by a retirement villiage... sounds sterotypical, but there is a lot of knitting knowledge held by the Grandmas there and I bet one of them would love to be your knitting mentor!
http://learntoknit.com/ << has very clear instructions (a year ago I couldn't remember how to knit at all and now I'm making little purses and caps for dolls! No sweaters yet, but..eh...)
ya you are basically not taking a knit off your needle when adding in length hehe i'm new to it too... just started a few months ago... but the first scarf i made i did that... couldn't tell ya how to fix it though, the lady that taught me fixed it but it basically looked like she knitted backwards
