Well I'm coming up on a month and my dreads feel great. however, just today I split 2 of the ones I have in the back to make my head look "fuller". I did this because I only have about 26 dreads, and they are all kinda thin (pinky width, but the sections are about 1.5 to 2 inches) so I thought it was just because I have thin hair. But I found out something else.
When I split the two in the back they kinda unraveled, so I thought why not just backcomb it again.
well I backcombed again, but this time, much tighter, then I used a crochet hook to top it off. well I did this method on all my other ones but I didn't backcomb as tightly. the thing is that these new tight backcomb ones are super thick, like thicker than my index finger width, but the section is just about 1 inch, maybe less. I know my dreads will thicken up with time, but I wonder, did I screw up on all of them by not doing tight enough backcombing before crocheting them?
I feel like if I would've done tighter backcombing before crocheting that my dreads would be much thicker and I'd have more. Can anyone offer me any insight?

I would say, stop messing with them, and let nature take it's course. The more you mess with them, the more your going to think something is wrong. let them be.

I agree with the top poster. I had mine backcombed and after the first week there was a lot of unraveling and loose hairs. 6 months later there was awesome progress and tighter locks. At 8 months I had accidentally let a congo grow in the back of my head and one night i was drunk i tore it to shreds and i saved like 5 dreads from it and a congo or two and some seperated like 6 inches a part. I just enjoy the garden in my head. And the dreads just look better and better the less I do. patience is a virtue. They will all look sick and change often. Just let em do their thing. Tis the power of the dread.

Don't backcomb- the natural process is beautiful
I did this backcombing shit- It was a waste of time.

    Now they're gone.
And one day when I feel like it i'll use the neglect method.

Yeah I'm completely loving my dreadlocks, I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. I can't go back now, I'm already in a month, combing out at this point would be a waste :( I was thinking that the thinner ones will shrink more and the new thick ones will shrink less and they'll even themselves out. I hope thats what happens lol I should get pictures up soon :)

Actually, your hair has to unravel itself first so while it would not look like dreads you'd be on your way better than leaving your 1 month backcombed ones in

Don't do anything, if you do it will fuck it up more. That's all you need to hear..... Seriously either cut or keep growing.

Keep doing whatever, they'll become dreads. Combing them out and leaving it will take years, leaving it now will take months

    this is true

but 1 month isn't really that much progress at all, so basically what I'm saying is it isn't too late to change your mind on what method you want to use if you're still deciding

Sorry, I just don't have the patience for neglect method. I'm happy with how they are, they'll shrink and fatten up I guess, I was just wondering if they would've been fatter If I'd done it a little better. I wanted to see what you guys think, this'll be like an experiment, to see which ones fatter
