question about the movie requeim for a dream

why is it that everytime they shoot up their pupils get dilated, heroin causes the pupils to constrict. I find it kinda weird cuz they only snort cocaine or do a speedball a couple of times however most of the movie theyre shooting heroin. every drug scene in the movie they show pupils gettin dilated. If its a mistake by the director then its an unforgivable mistake, could someone pls explain more to me.

 

navajas you are 100% right there were so many mistakes buy the director in that movie it was comical.He should of studied the drug scene in New York City or anywhere for that matter before he did a movie on drug addiction.There were so many stupid mistakes that were just wrong about drugs.addiction,etc From the way they bought there dope in the back of a secret store. It was like you had to be a member of some exclusive club to be able to buy Herion. When in real life Herion is sold on Every Ghetto Street corner in New York and is easier to get in New York then anything. So much was just bull shit in tha movie from the big ass frankenstein needles they were using to what the dope looked like and how much they did to get high etc. It prety mcuh just made me laugh my ass off on how out of touch and fake it was.It is probably the most unrealistic drug culture movie out there made in the last 20 years ? What I really love and thought was funny is how the biggest market for herion in the Whole united states for some reason not explained just runs dry of dope one day. That has never happend and never will happen.Actually the day that New York City runs out of Herion is the day that hell freezes over. Please don't ever believe one thing you see in that movie. I loved how the kid gets a abscess and does nothing for it and just keeps shooting dope in it, First you can't shot dope in abscess and it does not spread that fast or quick. Its unreal how fake and unrealistic that movie is !!!! If you are going to make a movie about addiction and drugs atleast do some dam research on whats it really like.

 

Whether it was realistic or not, a lot of what you saw was more for visual effect than anything. Listen to how well the score/soundtrack goes with the movie. It's supposed to be more moving than realistic. Compare it to his other movies, Pi & The Fountain.

 

Although I love that movie (as well as the book) the director did fuck up with the eyes.

I too thought it was odd that he was buying dope in the back of a supermarket. wtf?

 

Sure the movie is moving and touching but If you know the truth and the real way drugs are bought and sold and the way a addict is you can't help but not look at how fake and unreal that movie is.I mean they got almost nothing right at all about drugs and using drugs. Shit you would of thought the director would of brought in real addicts and Narcotic cops who knew the New York Drug scene to make the movie as realistic as possible.As where other movies did.American Gangster being the most realistic movie on the way Herion is bought and sold in New York City that I have ever seen.Sure in other drug culture movies that I can think of off the top of my head like trainspotting,Basketball Diaries,Wonderland,Buggy Nights and drug store cowboy,etc there were mistaskes and untruths about addicts and drugs but they were minute and so small they could be over looked. In requeim the mistakes and untruths were just so big you could not over look them at all. I can't tell you how many things were false in that movie half of them I can't even remember. As for camera work and the angles they used it was outstanding. But as for a realisitic effect it could of not failed more !!!

 

yeah i mean come on everybody knws heroin constricts pupils, the dilated pupil picture is even on the cover of the DVD!!!

 

yah that movie felt like some kind of scare tactics kind of movie, but its ok, has decent acting and stuff its just so fake.

so im confused...everytime i do heroin, my pupils remain the same, but every time i do oxy they fucking pinpoint...do your pupils only constrict on heroin if u iv or something?

 

I do realize this is an old thread but.. In Philly some chinese shops do actually sell out of the back.. So it's not as odd as you might think.. Just gotta find the right ones, I tend to think they are safer in some aspects. Dealers aint always in there tho, I'm pretty sure they pay them a small fee for the dope spot..

 

Requiem For A Dream is one of my favorite movies. Realistic or not, it fucking rocks.
