This is prob a dumb post, but i was talking with my mom about alice in wonderland, and i cant remember the Cats Name , whats he supposed to represent ??? anyone help me
Nah it's not a dumb question, I've here over a year and trust me there have been far worse. The cat is the Chesher (sp) cat. I've no idea about symbolism. TTFN Sage
I heard it was shrooms... what is it about Lewis Carroll's writing that rings of opium influence? And it's spelled "Cheshire Cat," I think.
i coulda swore i read something about the mushroom thing being a myth somewhere on erowid, and it was really inspired by opium. http://www.erowid.org/culture/characters/carroll_lewis/carroll_lewis.shtml i'm sure it's in one of the links there if anyone cares to look. but the drugs she took to help write the story arent as important as the story itself...
How very true. I don't know or care about the drug thing, but knowing a bit about history the opium theory might be true. Or perhaps he just had a great imagination. TTFN Sage
I always thought it was opium - that the caterpillar was symbolic of Lewis..... Anyway, I thought it was quite enjoyable. Has anyone read Alice through the Looking Glass?
