Ive always wondered will i get a chance to see a revolution and ive thoughten how... So far i was wondering when the religious generation of the 1930-40-and 50s die and when the hippie generation takes power in congress and the gov. will things change or will this remain a oppressed society forever? Also i was wondering if there are hippie events?
Unfortunately the religious right of the 30s/40s/50s are being replaced by the religious right of the 60s/70s/80s and it was these folks worrying about moral values that contributed to Bush being elected. Religious whack jobs that wish to legislate their view of morality are not limited the older or any generation. As for the hippie generation of the 60s finding their way into congress....well few, if any, of true vision and quest ever make it that far, but are usually found living their lives making a difference on more local levels. Those who purport themselves as progressive and forward thinking, that actually find themselves running for or members of congress, are really not any different than any other politician, just players of the same game with a different spin.
The baby boomers already run the show. The eldest of the boomers are in their 60's and already retiring, the people who grew up in the 30's and 40's have mostly been long retired. The boomers are middle aged people they are not gonna be starting any revolutions anymore, it's always the young who do that. You and I are a part of generation y which is a hero (civic) generation, were more like the G. I. generation then the boomers. they cycle usually repeats. G. I . Generation (1901-1924) - hero (civic) Silent Generation (1925-1945) - Artist (Adaptive) Baby Boomers (1946-1964) - Prophet (Idealist) Generation X (1965-1981) Nomad (Reactive) Generation Y (1982-2001) Hero (civic) Our children or grandchildren depending on if your a young or old generation y'er will be another Prophet (Idealist) generation. Obviously a revolution could happen anytime, but i'd say if it's gonna happen it'll probly be when were older.
That is a facinating theory....where did you find that? That means that we are the seed planters...we will be influential. Even if it'll happen when we're older, we do have a very important part to play. We'll be the elders, the guides, the ones that younger people will look up to for guidance and answers....I got goosebumps just thinking about it!! (Im an X-er....maybe i'll be too old??)
on another note.....good people rarely venture into politics. there are a few honest "civil servants", but not many.
Most the people who I know going into politics they are doing it because they want to make our world/country/province a better place.
Well your only 2 years older then me so hopefully not. I'm right on the cusp between X and Y. But yea if they cycle goes as usual, the next generation after Y will adapt to the ways that we set and look to us as there guiders, then the generation after them (our kids or grandkids) will be an idealist generation and rebel against generation Y's ways of life. So my generation is gonna be the ones the idealists are rebelling against hehe oh well. The Geberation y'ers on this board will probly be more like the beakniks. Keruac was part of the G.I. Generation and he was the catalyst for the baby boomers to rebell against his own generation.
It's really hard for me to find music festivals in the small town in NZ where I live lol. When I get a bit older I'll be hitting the road to check them out, but at the moment my mum probably wouldn't let me, and no-one is really interested in going to a 3-4 day long festival. It would be extremely fun, though!! I hate the fact we like-minded people are few and far between.
