I've read when HPS is used the entire life cycle that it adds on 1-2 weeks, but the buds tend to be larger and more dense than using MH the entire life cycle. So you definitely want an HPS for at least flowering. You can always get a conversion ballast so you can switch the bulb from MH to HPS when you go from veg to flowering. Or you can combine the spectra during veg and flowering, you can get a Hydrofarm Growzilla reflector that runs 2 bulbs at once which you can mix and match.
