Rather than whine and complain about everything, you should be thankful and happy for what you have. people who whine all the time about cops and crap are soooo annoying. don't drive on a suspended license and do stupid crap like that and then throw a fit when you get caught and get in trouble. cry babies. crying about going to jail. also quit whining about this country. this is a nice place to live and we are given so much here. sure there is always something to complain about but there is also plenty of great stuff to be thankful for. yet lots of people focus on the bad things and whine all the time and talk crap saying this country sucks. people expect things to be 100% perfect and gotta realize that is pretty much impossible. i do not feel like typing out a real long explanation as to why this is a nice place to live and why cops and jails are necessary.
The USA is a mess. Nobody is looking for perfect. Washington DC lives in a bubble that has no clue what is going on in the streets of average america. They cater to the elite at the detriment of everyone else. Right now it is only a good place to live for a few very wealthy people and the political elite.
I feel perfectly justified in bitching about this country because of how much I love this country. Law enforcement is neccessary but the amount of money poured unneccessarily into law enforcement versus education, for example, is not justified. As for the government, and I've said this many times before - if you aren't pissed off, you simply don't have enough information.
you live in a place where you can get free money every month for disability if you have no legs!. how nice is that. you live in a place where they can pay you for being unemployed for a short while. you live in a place where you can get free food stamps for being poor. I consider this all very nice.
Thats all fine and dandy, but compared to other wealthy nations our social benefits are not really up to speed. American beaurocracy is actually really ineffecient compared to what it could be. Thats just talking inefficiencies....Thats just the tip of the iceberg. The rest of the iceberg is made up of very deep rooted corruption. We're luckier than many nations in the world. I know this so don't get me wrong. I just think we could be a lot better than we are. I also think that luck also comes at a cost. A lot of people around the world are suffering because of the American way of life.
@Rugor, thank you so much for saying what you said, I totally agree with everything, your my hero As for the government "if you can't beat them, join them"
a sense of gratitude can be a good thing. the us is probably a couple steps up from north korea the country is going to shit though. the huge income disparities are just part of it. the whole culture is fucked. seems likely that things will only get worse, too maybe we need more whining and crying so we can get some positive change. this country was built by whining, dissatisfied people. the pilgrims came to america because they didn't think that they had enough religious freedom. other colonists came because they didn't think they had enough opportunity where they were. the american revolution was fought because people whined and cried about taxes and not having enough rights and say in government. the waves of immigrants that followed were dissatisfied with conditions in their home countries
You also live in a place where people constantly try to ignore the issues that are important, simply because they are annoyed by other people who choose to engage in current events intellectually with opinionated statements. Its a free speech forum I might add. You also live in a place where peaceful activists are shot and killed. You also live in a place that is controlled and operated by people who believe our world will end in 'fire and brimstone', these people also have control of nuclear weapons. You also live in a country that dedicates trillions of YOUR tax dollars to wars that will never be won...but yeah I'm sure its all "very nice". What your saying is that we should disregard our own personal reactions and opinions to ALL police injustices, flawed/arrogant foreign policies, and governmental malpractice...because they HAPPEN to have let a bit of legislation through that helps the less fortunate. Your attitude is 'look on the bright side', when there isn't one to speak of. People aren't always unemployed for a short while. The U.S.A is no longer what it was. Cops have way to much power and the government is being raped by corporate 'interests'. How nice is that? You want to play ignorant? Fine. Maybe you just don't like having to look at it. But other people liken to being at least socially engaged on current political matters. People deserve the opinions they have, and have a right to share them. Regardless of how annoying they are to you. I promise I will never make a thread entitled 'Quit crying about the people who are complaining about the usa. stop whining about their whining and just ignore the bad stuff'. Would be too long anyways.
What? You can't possibly be serious? Are you? This mentality is one of the reasons the country is in so much shit. So if the government is fucking everyone over, the only way to beat it is join in the circle with them to continue and fuck over your our country as well as others. Horray for evilness.
In my opinion people just don't like other people in power, thats the nature of humans, so they want to say the government this, the government that, without thinking logically and solving the problems them selves. But oh well, I'm fine with the USA, its just the ignorant ass people who fucks it up If we all took the time to self educate ourselves, USA will be a better place.
Not liking people in power is one thing. When those people are putting toxic chemicals in the water. Not admitting to the health hazards of the foods they accept to go on the shelf. Manipulating the people with fear tactics to convince them of illusional terrorism. Killing there own people for blood money. Invading other countries for their own personal profits. Murdering children, adults all innocent. Sentencing people for life in prison because of marijuana charges. Maybe its the chemicals they are spraying out of planes like the human population is a bunch of parasites. Allowing cigarettes to remain legal because, well it must be health for you. The top 1% in america owns more than the bottom 90% combined. No way would i ever want to join anything that promotes any of the above. That is all government issues. The people in the US have ever right to complain.
If we all took the time to self educate ourselves, we would all know of the injustices committed by not only the United States government but virtually every major industry allowed to flourish in the United States. We would not say statements like "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" because we would know that kind of corruption is so fucked that no sane, moral person would possibly want to join in. If we were truly informed, we would not be okay with the USA. I support someone's right to be patriotic and all that, but any well-informed person with any sort of moral compass can not possibly be perfectly fine with the way things are going in this country. As for solving the problem ourselves....if you have any idea how to singlehandedly take down the food, chemical, biotechnological, pharmeceutical, weapons, and oil industries while also completely changing the three branches of government that support these industries instead of supporting the people of the United States...well, you tell me. I've been trying to figure it out myself.
I understand what everyone is saying, but I can't imagine to live somewhere else, I been to many countries and see how its manage, Compare it to the USA, we have the upper hand. This happens in every country. If you do some traveling maybe your eyes will open up more and see what's really going on. I agree we do have problems in the USA, but its not all the government, one thing I learned about America is that everyone likes to point the finger at someone.
I get what you're saying Rugor... and I definitely agree with it inasmuch as people who bitch about the government but then do nothing. If the best a person can do is whinge on the internet and to their friends, they are nothing more than so much hot air. And I also agree that to anyone living in the third world, our bitching would seem like so much selfishness. We do have much - everything we need. I'm not terribly happy with the government and I think democracy demands attention from its citizens... but I do completely understand your thoughts on this.
Whats your point? Its wrong no matter where it happens. Since you assume i've been no where explain to me what is going on then. They are at the root of all what should be very seriously fixed. They have a powerful say in everything. I agree its a problem. I do believe the country is starting to come more together though and starting to point the finger in the same direction rather than at each other.
first and foremost, as a non-christian i would still like to say A-men to Melaia and Broony and to the OP i can agree with you being frustrated with people who whine after doing stupid shit... i.e. driving without a license or hell even with a suspended driver's license...that's a mistake someone chooses to make knowing the consequences.... i fully agree law enforcement is crucial to a thriving area, when it's not corrupt. There are plenty of bad people in this world and we need crime to be limited...but when it's spent on putting people to jail or trying them for fucking marijuana charges it's fucking WASTING the country's money...and hell we are already in such debt, why not fucking end the prohibition?!?!?!?!?! One thing this country needs is Food Policy Reform, as broony mentions there are TONS well maybe not tons but hundreds (at least) of chemicals that have not been tested for side effects but are sold in stores and then people are exposed to these things...that are fucking shit up! This is not including all the other toxins people ingest in all the processed foods. There would be LESS money spent on health care if people actually gave a damn about what they put in their bodies!!!!!!!!! Some people really just don't give a fuck, especially those who never gain weight. BUT there are plenty of people who probably have NO idea what they are ingesting due to lack of knowledge (partially their fault, but partially a lack in Food education and policy). PLUS what about the impoverished people or those who are gradually becoming more and more poor...there isn't too much that they can afford that is healthy. I support WIC and programs like this, but even when I look at the food that they support I am very much appalled. as far as the government goes how can you not realize how fucking corrupt it is???? I voted for and really wanted to like President Obama, but he has made it damn near impossible for me to stay a supporter. what about the banks and large corporations that are corrupt and then ALSO commit tax evasion in order to make a larger profit at the expense of the country's tax payers who are getting poorer while the corporations and such get wealthy....and why isn't this being looked into? CORRUPTION within the Government. honestly as an environmentalist i'm damn near appalled by what's going on in this country. As a peace activist I'm appalled by how little activism I am seeing in regards to the Afghanistan war and such things. I don't have cable but I read President Obama's speech this morning...and I'm just so fucking frustrated with this war. I just moved to a new city from a city that was passionate in regards activism. I come from a largely conservative state with large democratic pockets. I moved 800 miles away a month ago and am about ready to start planning anti-war rallies among OTHER things... Unfortunately being new the area this is going to be a bit of a challenge considering I don't have a large network, but I'm going to try and work on that in the near future (if anyone has ideas please feel free to PM me) so anyway as for whining it's more like standing up for what I believe in, and sure there is no perfect utopian society, and hell I seriously doubt that America will ever come near perfect BUT I DO SEE ROOM FOR DRASTIC improvements! If you chide me for wanting to make the place I live in better for it's people and the Earth then I say you do not have a large enough heart. Gaia is what sustains us, and we as people do not appreciate or care for her enough. Human indifference is the world's biggest problem! end rant
Oh yeah did I mention we have free public schools, how cool is that (even tho its not the best), I know in other countries you have to pay. But I must say I wish there was somebody who can control inflation, too many prices are rising, we need somebody good to control our budget.
Oh yes- it just brings a tear to my eye when I think about that *sniff* Illegal wars and using the military to destabilize regions whose sovereign governments aim to curtail unfettered access to their natural resources just fade into obscurity because my altruistic and giving government will just keep cutting check after check should I lose my leg in a freak accident involving chainsaw-brandishing midgets wearing powder wigs. I should be appreciative of my rich Uncle Sham and forget that a succession of administrations aided and abetted in a real estate and investment swindle that has left a permanent scar on the economy, putting people out of work; I should really give a pass for the felonious fiscal policy because the federal teat of entitlement would be offered to little old me for rancid suckling on the occasion that a downpour of full sized grand pianos crushes my pelvis and shattering my dreams of becoming a world famous belly dancing, fire eating, folk singer... so gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme... It really does just bring an appreciative lump in my throat just to reflect on how Uncle Sham has had the foresight to do my thinking for me, to not drive up the price of engineered food with needless research costs related to matters that only wimps and wussies are to be concerned with- like nutrition and safety. Bah- if the teevee tells me it's safe then that's good enough for me- and wasn't it Uncle Sham who gave me a teevee for free? Well- maybe not but the programming is free... well, not anymore- but it was! Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme.... So who cares that by being an American I automatically have a metaphorical bullseye on my back because of what tender, caring, giving, Plutocratic Uncle Sham has done globally because there's so very much to see here... and perhaps I will be oh so lucky to have a camping experience compliments of my Uncle Sham- I hear that's the start of what is being done for people whose lives and careers were destroyed in the larcenous swindle that our benevolent government so lovingly and tenderly abetted. I hear that my Uncle Sham is planning on doing all my thinking for me- including decisions as to whether I'll be able to travel freely... can you imagine what a load off my shoulders that is? Oh, I wub you Uncle Sham... here's all the rest of my freedoms and liberties... thanks to your sweet and caring nature I won't be burdened with any need for them. So yeah, stop all your whining about the trivial details because the government care so very deeply for you and me that it is willing to commit global atrocities and war crimes on our behalf. If that doesn't show how much they care I don't know what does... so gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme.... where's my rancid federal nipple-milk? Gimme, dammit!
