I kind of want to quit the nicotine for good, does the patch thing really work? thinking of that, so yeah I have smoked heavily for 1 year now, thinking if I quit i might be able to avoid cancer later on. thoughts? I will just smoke ganja strictly

Not smoking would probably do the trick. That's how I've always done it.

Tobacco addiction is a cop-out. It's NOT hard, when you think about everything you stand to gain by quitting, or lose by not quitting. And if you're a man about it, when you want a cigarette, it's not hard to have one, and then not smoke again.

this is true. the trick really is to just NOT smoke.

I'm a hypocrite. I've smoked 2 cigarettes tonight after not smoking for two months. but seriously...don't follow my example. Just stop buying cigarettes and stop bumming cigarettes. If you don't have cigarettes, everything comes easy after that.

Yeah idk its hard to not smoke. I have heard good things about the patch but think its expensive. I usually smoke bong hits of weed and tbacco not really on cigs.

I'm just weaning myself off slowly. I tried to quit cold turkey, but started having bad chest pains from it, so I'm just bumming a couple of cigs a day from my husband.

Haven't bought a pack in three weeks, though.

Just don't buy any more cigs and you won't have any around to smoke.

The best way to stop smoking is by becoming a nonsmoker. I smoked marlboro lights for ten years a pack per day. I spent six months consciously being a smoker, telling myself I'm chosing to smoke, then one day I consciously decided to become a nonsmoker. There was no good or bad in it, no judgement, it was just somthing I decided to do. I used Nicorette the alleviate the physical symptoms but the psychological symptoms are the ones that get you. Everything is in the mind. Create your own reality. Take total responsibility.

It's much easier when you realize that you can become a smoker again whenever you want to. It's up to you, what do you want. Conscious manifestation is awesome.

tobacco addictions are easy to beat for me

cigs have been more frustrating than dip and I still have them every so often, but I don't have them everyday or as I used to, after every bowl.

my mom bought an old-fashioned barrel full of cherry sours to help her cut back/ quit. its harder for her since my dad doesnt want to quit, so shes always around it. when my dad was trying to quit with her, he got a box of push-pops from Sams.

when i quit, i just stopped smoking. it sucks for a bit, but i dont think i craved the nicotine, it was the smoking that i missed. its very habitual, its like fat people who eat when they are bored. doesnt help with the problem (boredom) but it kills a little time. i did start smoking again, briefly, when my son died, and then i quit again. i have smoked in stressful situations since quitting, but its not a daily desire at all. i also never associated it with food or coffee or sex, so i dont have a habitual craving at those times.
if you are struggling with the habitual part, replace it with something else. also, you could try nibbling on some licorice root, but dont overdo it, it can have some negative side effects if done too much. worth looking into anyway.

good on you. hubby found out recently that he has the early stages of lung disease, hes only a few months older than me. i think he started smoking when he was 12/13, though i could be mistaken. longer than i did anyway. but lung disease at 25? not a good thing. my mom has smoked most of her life and developed asthma in the last couple of years. her lungs look great for a smoker. we all take it differently, you know? but not a risk thats worth it to me. i think the other crap in cigs is probably suspect too, if you grew your own tobacco and smoked once at the end of a hard day/ week, you probably wouldnt suffer the same kinds of health issues. some of the same, sure, but not all.

You could always give E-Cigs a try. You'd still be getting the nicotine, but it would just be vapor.

But yeah.....if you really wanna cut it out completely, then just stop smoking. I should stop smoking, but I like it too much and it keeps me from being too bored. lol

    good idea
    OD on nicotine! :)

one of my buddies used the gum to quit. but he was pretty addicted to the gum for awhile and would chew the stuff non-stop. i guess you're supposed to chew it a little and just hold it in your mouth for a small amount of time, he would gnaw on it for hours

haha I just tried smoking a little bit... Noe THATS what I call a good nicotine high haha.
Yeah I know its kinda dumb to try but I have an incredible tolerance to nicotine atm, so i think im straight. Not like all of a sudden im gonna be like oh noes too much nicotinne nooooo *dies* lol.its way more fucked up to try to wear multiple patches at once.
And yeah I heard about the gum before, completely forget about it sounds good actually.
Ahh yeah today is soo nice even if im barely smoking. I actually am liking patches BETTER than smoking. Uh oh :(

yup, because you're probably "smoke" but aren't really, fully physically addicted. you're probably getting a much larger nicotine dose just wearing one patch.
