at least he did the honourable thing..... he was photographed wearing a tee shirt in public... the geordies would never have accepted him back into their society again after that

Just another macho scumbag... hardly an endangered species in the North East.

This "legend" had just come out of prison for violent assault...on a 9-year old kid ! Wow - hard or what ?

He was also a serial domestic violence freak...women probably being a bit more of a challenge to his "manhood" than 9-year olds....this culminated with him feeling justified at shooting his ex-girlfriend, who'd wisely dumped him while he was inside, and killing her new boyfriend.

This may make him a legend in some people's eyes - me, I just think he was a violent asshole.

I don't like the way the media have demonised him
I think people have the right to have an alternative opinion.
I'm confused to what he was and who he was.

Brilliant articles. The radio interview in 'the quietus' was astounding. Both were very well written.

while i'm not in any way condoning any of Moats actions, the guy was a mentally ill. not just that but he had previously requested, both on the inside and on the out, to be referred to psychiatric profesionals for his violent rages, intense psychotic episodes and increasing paranoia. he even told the authorities that he would kill policemen on his release.

"It is absolutely clear that Raoul Moat was a callous murderer, full stop, end of story. I cannot understand any wave, however small, of public sympathy for this man."

I think the use of the phrase "full stop. end of story" is particularly telling. by demonising moat, the authorities forego any responsibility that they may have had. clearly social services had several opportunities to prevent this, but repeatedly allowed Moat to fall through the holes in the net.

Like i say, not condoning his actions in the slightest. the guy was a bastard. i'm just saying it seems like a portion (however small) of the blame should fall elsewhere. And, instead of pointlessly demonising him (deserving as he no doubt is) figures in government would be MUCH better served examining the gaps in the system through which he fell, thereby making sure events of this nature are less likely to be repeated.

    Don't fear the reaper :)

You can hook up with me on facebook Raskalization@hotmail.com - Alex Lowe

I generally use it to display my photography but unfortunately there are some really bad eggs out there who abuse it. In cases like this I completely understand the phrase "If you had half a brain you'd be dangerous". Not that she had half a brain...even worse..she had the medium to connect with 35,000 like minded idiots!

You definitely chose a brilliant collection of articles which I hope everyone who reads this thread will read..word for word.

yup, having done a bit more research, it seems he appealed for help AND refused it. i'm getting all sorts of conflicting accounts, makes it bloody hard to form an opinion on it lol

either way, i still reckon its better to try and form something constructive out of a tragedy, rather than just pointlessly demonising him, or indeed trying to find someone to blame for all this. i mean he's dead, mate, he ain't gonna hear you. try and understand the sequence of events better in an attempt to prevent the same things happening again.

He has probably been mentally pulled apart more now he is dead than he ever was alive.
I wasn't so sure the so-called experts were right about him, but the more I read the more I think they have a point.
The dude just didn't really want any help.

I meant 'bad' jokes, not 'bed' jokes..I do not read or listen to bad media frenzy jokes before I go to sleep, I just want you to know that.
