RF + a question for you.

RF: An electrician at work today was about to drill a hole for his conduit in a wall when he spotted something shiny in the wood (4x4). He dug it out and it was a very old looking 50 cal. bullet. No casing, and it looks like it was never fired. No rifling marks, and no distortion in it's shape whatsoever.

The tiny little shiny bit was where it appears the blade knicked it at the mill.

It's copper (jacketed perhaps) and just slightly darkened with a very small amount of oxidation.

Question: With How the hell did it get inside of a tree without bing fired aside, how long would a chunk of copper that size last inside of a tree?

it was a sapling.. and grew up around it, The bullet probably traveled very far from a Musket barrel, glided with wadding.. ,, forever.

haha thats kind of crossing into different genres. i have heard about wood turners somehow putting a silver dollar on a tree. after years the tree grows around it. they will cut it down and turn a bowl with the silver dollar embedded in the bottom of it. as far as the oxidation goes: sometimes a light coat of oxidation is the best protection against oxidation

It was 98 percent just plain old darkened copper, like an old penny. Like it was in someones pocket for years. Still looking like copper.

It looked like a WW2 rifle bullet, or even older. Very pointy at the tip, and very heavy.

maybe someone used a jack lalane solid flavor injecto syringe to put it in the tree

that's a strange find. maybe it's steel and not lead. i think every once in a while even a lead bullet may not deform if all the factors line up just right
