being a "famous star" is simple... being true to your music is the one you need to question.

i too cannot stand rap, i cannot even have respect for it because all they sing about is "bitches, hoes, escalades, spinners, and like partying", many of the songs to me have absoulutley no meaning.

actually it is quite hard to become a rap star. You have to have a flow, and be able to write. Then you have to know people to cut a mixtape with. then you have to send it out and pray the record labels like your flow. sure rock may be a bit harder cuz you have to play an instrument but ill be damned if its easy to be a rap star.

you have sumblime in your sig but you say you despise all rap? strange ebcause some sublime songs are straight up rapping. people who dislike a whoel genre of music are ignorant. There can be songs and artists you dont like but i guarentee that there is a bunch of stuff youve never heard of that you like.

I've said this so many times, there is good Hip Hop, you just don't find it on MTV or the radio. There are plenty of threads here with good Hip Hop artists who don't write about bling bling and all that crap! I'm not saying you'll like the music but its better than all the commercial stuff.

u guys r sooo fucking immature, i could argue the same unjustified crap about rock or metal (its all mindless psuedo-satanic garbage ... or whinny, chauvinistic bullshit i.e. limp biscuit) but thats only the surface, thats the prollem with generalizations, there are exceptions, and in this case many exceptions, in fact the stereotype is the outlier. its jsut u hear the same 10 rock and rap bands over and over again new album here, new video there, but its really just recycled dribble with a flashy beat...but beneath the surface r some good, meaningful rock bands like the shins, unicorns, kenna, coldplay... same with hiphop listen to Talib Kweli, Common, The Roots, Company Flow, Aesop Rock, K Os, Mos Def, Blackaliscious, or anything else that isnt on the radio or on MTV.

I had a friend last year who fell in love with Eminem in December, and could flow almost similar to him before Spring came around.. Try picking up a guitar and being able to improvise B.B. King-esqe blues or Hendrix-ish psychedelia or Hasil Adkins-ish rock n roll in the same amount of time... its not possible.

If history repeats itself (and it hopefully will), all this mainstream rap garbage will disappear soon. It happened to the '80s hair bands who sang about nothing but girls and money.

There is some good rap though... Spearhead, The Coup, Public Enemy, N.W.A.... its absurd to hate an entire genre, you hypocritical hippies.

Rock easily wins.. its been around for over 40 years longer.

its like comparing blink 182 to eminem... there is no winner, they both suck... mainstream music blows... but if you lookat underground rock and underground hip hop, they both have very good music... and talent... people who hate on rap/hip hop do it because they've only listened to the shit on the TV and radio... turn off your television and radio, it's making you stupid.

i can live with this statement rock takes more talent in terms of instruments, but lyrically hiphop takes more thought

Not really... mainstream music is controlled by major record labels... and these record labels control what their music sounds like... There are a few good mainstream bands, but not many... its not untrue to say that most mainstream music sucks... just listen to the music on the radio and on MTV... and look at the tabulature and structure of the songs... its shitty, extremely oversimplified recycled crap..
but bands like red hot chili peppers and queens of the stone age are awesome... and they are mainstream... and wu tang owns you all, and they are relatively stream, yet not at the same time.

new country sucks, old country is good.. like johnny cash... but dixie chicks and garth brooks isnt even real country... its just commercial shit.

for most record labels its about selling the image over a simplified repetitive song that easily sticks inside of peoples heads... its the truth, and they dont even hide it or try to act like they aren't after image rather than musical talent.

Perhaps... but look at Bob Dylan. He's easily the greatest songwriter of all-time, and he aint a rapper.

    I totally agree
    my opinion:
best song writer is really hard to say.... I really like a lot....
best rap writer I would say either Method Man, or Jimmy Page from Bloodhound Gang

damn straight.... and you sure wont ever find a rapper.. of all sorts to have better rhyme flow than dylan... dylans writing was insane... best rapper with the best lyrical content ever.... 2 pac without a doubt.. when you can get your rhyme books put on display at the smithsonian institute you know you were great... there are good rappers out there..... i use to listen to tons of rap... but times change..... i listen to a little bit now..... but i cant say that either is better than the other... because theres great lyricists in rap.. and theres great writers in rock... every ganre has its up sides and its down sides
