I've had this weird rash in my armpits for weeks now. At first I thought it was due to changing my deodorant. I only use natural. I was using Crystal roll on and then switched to one with lavendar in it. That's when I first noticed the rash so I immediately switched back to the Crystal one. Well, that was weeks ago and I still have the rash. The weird thing is that the rash doesn't usually bother me unless I'm breastfeeding my 5 month old. Then it feels all itchy and irritated (and my B/O smells worse than usual too). I googled this to see if it was common and I got nothin'!! Am I a total freak or has anyone else experienced something like this or have any ideas?
I've never heard of breastfeeding causing a rash. Some mamas sweat more, as their bodies are getting rid of a lot of the pregnancy water, and the hormones are changing. Try some mild soap, and try to keep the area dry. It is doubtful it is due to breastfeeding, in 20 years, I've never seen or even read about this. I hope it gets better soon.
you know, i get really really hot when i'm breastfeeding. my baby is like a hot water bottle. so i'd sweat like CRAZY. that's a really tender area. try places a couple of really soft, thick, absorbant cloths under there, to keep the skin from chaffing on itself while you're breastfeeding. i know i chafe really bad when i'm hot. something about all the blood flowing to the area, makes the skin tender, and when you add the extra moisture, you've got the perfect recipe for a rash
letdown for me feels like itchy armpits. No rash, though. breastmilk does smell like sweat, and nursing moms do have a distinct smell about them, but it's not an unpleasant one.
thanks...this is all helpful. I didn't think the rash was caused by breastfeeding (as I said, it started when I changed deodorants) but I do think the hormones involved in breastfeeding are making it worse. Not that I'm going to stop breastfeeding....I will try to put some super absorbent cloths there when I am breastfeeding.
my mom just told me she used some kinda of powder for her chaffing bits when she was hormonal. i can't remember what it was called, but you might want to check out some natural, baby safe powders. but then, the clothes might work really well.
When I changed deodorants it gave me a rash, and it took some time to get rid of. That may be all it is - but I would still try the others' advice just in case.
