I was going to keep this specifically to books, but I didn't want my thread to be moved to the book forum, so you can tell me anything. Articles, magazines, books...whatever. I'm an insane book worm when I find something I like and I just finished Ledges by Michael Frederick and it was AMAZING. Augh, I barely put it down. Soooo good. So suggest what my next reading material should be. I'm not picky.
I've only been reading young adult novels for my teaching literature to adolecents class. The Burn Journals was quite interesting though. It was written by Brent Runyon and is his account of when he tried to commit suicide by setting himself on fire and what he went through during recovery.
Oooh, that sounds like a good book, Tree-Hugger! I like young adult novels, they're pretty interesting.
Depends on what you like. A great nonfiction is "Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollen. He also has a new one out that I have not read that has gotten really good reviews. I'm currently reading "Jesus Land" by Julia Scheeres...it's a really engaging memoir. Hard to believe that it's true and even harder to put down. I also want to read "The Time Traveler's Wife". I don't know the author for that one, but my boss is letting me borrow it after I read Jesus Land. My roommate is reading The House of Leaves or something like that...apparently a tripped out book... Ohhhhh...and Kite Runner is a good one... Geez, I love to read!
Byrne by Anthony Burgess was pretty good but the final chapter absolutely and completely lost me. Anyone able to decipher this book completely must be an absolute master of this language. Batman: Hush Returns kicked ass and Batman Gothic was pretty good umm Queer by William S Burroughs was probably the best book I've read of late and a few of the stories from Roald Dahl's Umbrella Man collection were quite hilarious
I have a very random taste in literature, Annie. I can get into just about anything, just as long as the story's engaging. But I find myself insanely attracted to books based from the 20's to the 70's (I know, a whole 50 year span there, lol), and books involving medicine or psychology as a main theme.
I cant begin to describe it because it took me to another real world and my words would never do it justice at all! I have alot of inner pagan roots so it just was amazing for me.
Just finished reading 'The Janitor' which is highly motivational and a good read taboot. Also just finished, 'The Richest Man in Babylon', which is also fairly motivational and a tremendous financial guide that has helped quite a few people make it big, from what I hear. Unknown_American recommended that one to me, so if you like it I'm sure he can help you find others like it. My next two books are going to be: "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and "The World is Flat". I've been told the latter of the two is an absolute must read and at a glance the former looks pretty helpful and interesting too.
Yeah, I thought it was absolutely beautifully done =D I'm interested to read more from him eventually.
i just finished Look me in the eye by christopher robison the man who wrote it has auspbergers syndrome and its interesting to see things from his point of veiw
I've been on a Pulitzer spree. Guns, Germs, and Steel by Diamond. GULAG by Anne Applebaum. The Road by Cormac McCarthy. and One Hundred Years of Solitude by Marquez (although that won the Nobel Prize, not the Pulitzer). I've been feeling fairly prettentious as of late.
Jared Diamond is great. If you liked Guns, Germs, and Steel, you should read Collapse. Thought it was brilliant...I'm a geek, though, so...take it however you want.
Oh I LOVE you guys. Now I have a mile-long list of books to look into. Keep them coming, I'm a hardcore nerd, so books make me happy!
The last decent book I read was "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch ... by Gregory Maguire -" it was good-but i dunno, coulda been better- I guess. I love Neil Gaiman and will recommend his books to anyone that asks. My favs are neverwhere, and American Gods
I read "The Catcher and the Rye" again last week. And I read another one called "The Red Tent" which was pretty good. It was sort of a biblical story so I don't know if you're into that or not but it was hard for me to put down. "My Antonia" is what I'm reading now and its sooo good.
