I often consider what reality might be like if we had a different set of senses. I came across this pic from the BBC of radio wave data represented in our visual spectrum. Radio Wave Supernova Ever thought of what the world would look like using other ways to see? How about the beauty of our magnetic shield being drawn out into a tear drop by the solar winds. Or the world of sonar negating the need for a source point of light and also seeing through many materials. The spectrum from Red through to Violet is mind blowing enough. I think people would find it harder to ignore the universe and do their day jobs if our senses picked up more. Did you like the pic?
It's a strikingly beautiful picture in a kind of haunting way. Animals can make use of senses that we can't. Rattlesnakes can see in infra red, that would be cool, like the Predator....
It's a fantastic picture, it really makes you think about what's going on all the time beyond our perception. Many animals have different senses than we do. Bats "see" in sonar, that would be pretty cool If we didn't filter out 99% of what's going on around us would we be able to function at all? It would just be a barrage of senseless data... and ... if we could see radio waves etc, wouldn't people just get used to it, and go about their day jobs just the same?
are you sure that is a REAL pic? I mean, where is the story it was linked to, if it came from the BBC? It looks really cool, but it looks Photoshopped as well.
I think the idea is that this is data from the radio wavelength end of the EM spectrum, captured from the supernova in question, represented visually and superimposed onto a photo, representing where this EM radiation is coming from in the sky.
I thought that when I was posting but reckoned, even taking into account that we'd get used to it, the added information would totally change how our society works anyway. Would it work for the better? i.e. Wouldn't we be more aware of our interlinked consciousness with the universe and nature rather than purposefully forgetting it all for short term gratifications like money and TV? ... I wonder how a society that could see radio waves would form... sunset postcards would be more colourful that's for sure
Yes definitely, you would probably, if not already, enjoy hard science fiction, where the rules are bent a bit, but largely adhered to, for example there is a book "dragons egg" by robert forward, it is about a race of intelligent, conscious beings that evolved on the surface of a neutron star. exquisite man, pure exquisittocity! sien cera
if we could sense everything we might sense ghosties and ghoulies and then id be permanently terrified....an if i could sense there were spiders in my house when i couldnt even see them id hafta live in an enclosed room with no holes/doors/windows/plugholes lol.... *my silly addition* ill read this properly when im not tired. by the way, how r u kev? i enjoyed hookin up with u in birm that time an havent really chatted much since x
