i haven't really heard much Pink Floyd. They're supposed to be good but i don't know any of their songs. Can anyone recommend some songs by them that are great?
Seeing as I'm into psychedelia, I would suggest The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, but their most popular album would have to be Dark Side of the Moon. Both are good, but I prefer The Piper... By the way, it would be best to just check out their albums as opposed to individual songs.
Be forewarned.. Syd's Pink is not for everyone.. But you stand to get the most out of it.. Lately I've been listening to Atom Heart Mother (a bit different - but enjoyable).. Also "Obscured by clouds" - Great album, but no real radio hits on it.. I think Dark Side or Animals is a good starting point.. When you really want to dig in - Go for the Syd studd (Piper at the gates of dawn / Saucerful of secrets)..
ok so basically, listen to everything by them. i was just listening to some of Pipers etc. it sounded quite good.
obscured by clouds is very underrated, imho. I would say, if you are new to pink floyd, get dark side of the moon. if you dont like that album, chances are you probably wont like anything else in the catalogue. my faves are probably animals, piper, and dark side of the moon in the top 3.
I'm now listening to Animals...it's a great one! I started with dark side, it completely changed my views on music...it's an excellent album, overrated, but you have to check it out! my favourite song out of dark side is Time, but you have to listen to the whole album to really appreciate it, the songs are great! ummagumma is a great album too...i'd say all of them are!
Do listen to Dark Side. One of the best albums you'll ever hear, IMO. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned The Wall, but it seems there are plenty of other suggestions already to have that thrown into the mix.
Lots of people will recommend Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall which is all good but definately check out early Pink with Syd Barrett. If you want a few Syd-era songs listen to Interstellar Overdrive, Astronomy Domine and See Emily Play.
i have been looking for ummagumma for so long now... I've only heard it once, and i really liked it. For some odd reason none of the record stores here seem to carry it.
eh, ummagumma is an okay compilation, hardly anything for a person who is starting to listen to the floyd. the live side is great, but the studio is a bunch of rubbish, mostly, with some good moments (a narrow way pt 3, and grandchester meadows)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=music&field-keywords=ummagumma&search-type=ss&bq=1&store-name=music/ref=xs_ap_l_xgl15/002-5646884-9076827 However I reccomend Meddle. It's Musical styles encompasses everything floyd had produced prior to, and more than hinted at what they would achieve by Dark Side Of The Moon. Well not so much syd represented, but the non syd early floyd is all there. Pluss it has one of these days which is pretty much only characteristc of itself in floyd music, but very awesome IMHO.
you guys have reccomended all the good albums!! Piper is my fave at the moment and darkside is really good but i dnt suggest you listen to it first. xxxxx
Darkside of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals & The Wall are fab & their best known. I happen 2 love Piper at the Gates of Dawn & A Saucerful of Secrets is good 2. Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun is my fave song on there(and as if every1 doesn't already know, I'm a big Syd supporterlol)
