Has anyone heard of this stuff? It's perfectly legal, marketed as a "Mood Enhancer" and sold in numerous smoke and sex shops. I've tried it a couple times. Drink two ounces, it tastes like pure shit, and it actually makes you trip. I find it works best when combined with marijuana, though certainly you would experience most of the effects regardless. I've actually experienced mixed results. The first time, my trip was not very intense. It was nothing like doing mushrooms or acid, in that there weren't any visuals, but I felt as though I had an elevated sense of imagination, as though I was immersed in my own mind. Frequently I felt as though I were part of a videogame, and would begin making noises and strange bodily movements. The second time I drank Red Dawn on an empty stomach. I underwent a surprisingly intense trip that lasted probably an hour. The effects don't totally wear off for probably six to eight hours, but the trip itself peaks early (probably around two hours after consumption). Anyways, I haven't found any information on erowid or any other internet sources, except from different websites that sell the product. This stuff contains a lot of different ingredients, and boasts of providing a perfectly legal and perfectly herbal experience. Chances are this shit is going to blow up in the near future, but there isn't any information regarding health risks, long-term effects, etc. I'm assuming this is because Red Dawn is fairly new, and not very well known.
they almost definitely contain a source of lysergic acid amide (LSA) which is a naturally occurring precursor to LSD. most common "recreational" sources today are the seeds of either hawaiian woodrose or morning glories. they make most people sick as a dog and occasionally but rarely produce strong trips on the same level as a high dosage of LSD or psilocybian mushrooms. its likely to also contain a number of less potent herbs such as calamus root or stimulating and exotic sounding herbal drugs like guarana or kola. all in all whatever is in it can be purchased from more reputable herb dealers on their own and mixed up by yourself for far less money and done in such a way as to be closer to actually legal. the only "red dawn" herbal drugs i've seen for sale are capsules containing nothing but caffeinated substances, and previously i think they contained ephedra. the stuff you're talking about is obviously different. if you want to trip, try growing your own mushrooms. its pretty easy. www.shroomery.org {edit: i just remembered spores are only illegal in two states - california and georgia, iirc. check up on it though, it might be different now. the spores are legal in most of the country because they do not contain the drugs found in the mature mushrooms} or since you live in the right climate, you might consider growing a couple flushes to familiarize yourself with the mushroom, their appearance and behavior, and then learn about wildcrafting them from someone who is experienced. also you can order cut segments or live plants of a few different psychoactive cacti that have not been scheduled and are commonly available, whether or not they contain the illegal drug mescaline. the two most commonly used right now are called "san pedro" and "peruvian torch." while they contain mescaline similar to peyote, they contain it in smaller quantities and do not contain as many psychoactive drugs other than mescaline the way peyote does, so it will be a somewhat different trip. still, these cacti are used in many parts of south america instead of peyote, which does not grow there. lastly you might consider simply buying hawaiian woodrose/hawaiian baby woodrose seeds, morning glory seeds, or one of the few other seeds containing LSA, and do a pretty basic polar/nonpolar extraction as is most likely detailed at erowid, which should provide you with an extract of these plants far less likely to make you sick than simpler preparations. despite whether or not psychoactive cacti and LSA containing seeds can be purchased legally on their own, they DO contain controlled substances and any use other than horticultural is illegal, whether some companies manage to sell the drugs in headshops or not. if we want to keep these materials available we need to make sure people use them responsibly, and not support people who will try to scam you out of money with rip-off products which are illegal anyways. just because you CAN buy it in a store doesnt mean its legal...it means the government hasn't put a stop to it yet. if we dont buy snake oil products then they will go out of business, get-rich-quick schemers will not sell these plants as drugs, and they will remain available not only for those looking to explore their consciousness, but for beautiful gardens as well. keep these plants available for everyone, dont buy bullshit gimmicks! you can have the same experience for cheaper by buying the plant matter yourself anyway.

no, but if it is genuinely psychoactive and produces effects similar to well known and widely used illegal psychedelics, it almost definitely contains either hawaiian woodrose seeds or morning glory seeds. it could possibly contain other herbal drug sources such as amanita muscaria mushrooms or calamus root. regardless its nothing you can't recreate at home for cheaper and with less danger and without supporting the types of businesses that get substances/organisms outlawed.
