First Post... This site has a lot of great information and days of nice reading. It is nice to be able to have a conversation with like-minded people. My question or subject of discussion would be in regards to concern over what happens to my "closet" when I am not home. How does everyone monitor there project or what if there was a fire while you were out and it burns your place down? I might be just over concerned but I own my place, and I have a little more pride. Besides if I have a fire it would be the end of my Security System that I couldn't replace. Any ideas or does anyone have the same concern? Good Times...
A fire is unlikely, but having seen some real "barn job" wiring efforts elsewhere, it's surprising there aren't more. Also, better to burn your house down when you aren't at home, at least you're not going to die in the fire. Anyway... If you are small time and only running a few hundred watts, you are not at much risk of fire. If you are heavily DIY wired for a larger operation, it's good to know what you're doing electrically. If you don't know what you're doing, get somebody who does. Some easy safeguards would include smoke detectors, a fire extinguisher or two, and a lot of fire code drywall. That's the 5/8ths stuff that is heavy, hard to work with, and available everywhere. If you do have a fire as a result of illegal activity, realize that your insurance company is going to do its' best to weasel out of paying the claim.
