I've been to a Renfest three times. Scarborough Faire once and the Ohio Rennaissance Festival twice. I LOVE Renfests!

define "rennie": people who go (who call themselves rennies) or the people who WORK them on a circuit (who are the real rennies).
seven years on and off circuit here. left for good in 97.

as for at one now, that'd have to be a Dickens/ holiday fest and those should be over.
Citrus circuit is rolling by Feb, as is Apache Junction.

i went as a patron this year and I don't think we did anything besides answer to our names getting yelled out at us!
We saw kids...er...adults we knew as young teens, with their babies.

the rennasaince fest in kansas (bonner springs) is rad dude. Ive been many many times. They have chicken legs the size of cincinatti, and the best food on this side of the mississippi.

they are turkey legs, and many of the food vendors save 'em all faire, reheating each saturday morning. (TRF is particulary bad at this. Tislings food)
Best renfaire food is Victor, who has Pasta Palace and other booths at Waxahachie, Maryland and who knows where now.

my sweetie remembers sitting in his bus watching the amphitheatre in Bonner Springs during a Dead show he didn't have the ticket for.

anyone interested in hand made rennisance and faireware, I have a friend who has some pretty awesome stuff, and she's one hell of a wonderful person as well...

plus she has a link on her page for finding these festivals, so she's got all your needs covered... I'm not trying to put up a shameless plug or anything, she's just a great woman and a great resource for anyone interested in this kind of thing.

so you worked some circuit? where and for whom?
I was with Mad Ivan's, Crystal Mountain aromatics, and Black Dragon Pewter. If any of your people did the main midwest/ tex/colo/ariz bit, see if anyone remembers Tie Dye Paul and the SOCKS.

I remember when Scribe was a campground magazine by and for US.
One of the founders has passed on.
They'd set up their lap top (a monster, then) at Bizzare Bazzar on Monday mornings, while we sold whatever art we did aside from faire merch (tie dyes, for us), and Bernie and the girls made awesome breakfasts.
The Scribe folks would be laying out the next one while selling that week's edition.

yeah. i worked with Ray st. Louis when i was down doin the citrus circut. as well as John Parker at tha s.ohio rennie faire doin glass. as well as others at TRF . although i havent been to a fair in years, and didnt hit Too many when i was livin. ( just like five different shows) i just missed the colorado faire this summer witch i learned i was only a few miles away in denver, after the gathering in colorado. as well as two of the cali faires this fall, i missed.( witch they are everyware out there) as for the Scribe, i think that publication may have kicked it many yers ago. like i said i havent been around in a grip though. was dreamin bout gettin back into the sceme of things. (who knows) i think its A great life if you want to live life on the road, and like to have fun. do a little cool 'work, craft. good family. athough every community has its 'problems. but it is good id have to say.

    peace in.

oh, god, Ray? I'm sooo sorry. Only Nathan was a worse pushmonkey boss!
The shows still hate us, so you need that job and pass lined up early.
who did you work for at TRF? My sweetie did pretzels for Annie, managed for Daoud and John Coyner. I was always back in school by that one, but managed a trip for a weekend/ Bizarre Bazzar at Rio's.

Michigan Rennaissace Festival in Holly, MI is the only one I've been to, but I try to go (usually in garb) every year. I'd love to work there, but I'm almost 2 hours away....
