Can people stop the tapping of their feet, or clicking their fingers, or jingling their keys, when politely asked to. come on!! That is all.
OH yes, I agree with you both. My problem is I have really sensitive hearing, and those noises, actually hurt my ears. It sounds weird. but it is true. and people do not stop doing them even if you ask them too, which I think is so rude. I mean if I was doing soemthing to someone, that would send them going up the wall, i would stop.
They don't stop as usually it is habitual that they do it and are not even aware that they start doing it again. Plus it doesn't bug them.
Well if someone actually asked you to stop sarah, or reno, would yOU? I have aspergers, so when I hear these noises, they can trigger an meltdown to me, if they go on for too long. I had one in the bank the other day, bc the lady wouldnt stop jingling her keys, and it was hurting so bad. It was awful I had to leave, the bank without my money. : (
That is a really tough situation. If a stranger in a public place asked me to stop jiggling my keys I would think they had lost their mind. In my home, with them knowing why, I would expect that they try not to do so. In public people will not know your sensitivity or understand and to be fair will not really care as it is not their problem that you are sensitive to noise. I know that is difficult if you have to deal with it.
Well I can not help but go out in public, I have to. and I can not just stay at home all the time, bc of the noise . but I have so many times. and now I just dont want to do it anymore. I need to get out of my house. and when I can due to my pain and my aspie, I try to. I think it is just an common thing I would do even for a stranger. that is just how I am though. If I knwo it is going to bother you a ton, and it doesnt affect my wellbeing, then I dont see the problem in stopping. but that makes me a lot different than most, bc I can relate to certain things, being awful to deal with. so I have more compassion. I just wish someone wouldnt just assume I am crazy or a bitch, when I ask this, but someone who might have other reasons for wanting the repetitive noises to stop.
Indeed. I'm always rhythmically tapping my foot on the floor or my fingers/knuckles on tables or desks. I usually don't realize I'm doing it, and when someone points it out to me and expresses to me that it is annoying them, I try to stop. I usually start doing it again though, a few minutes later.
People do not understand. I am not really sure it is fair to expect total strangers to do so. I have Tinnitus from treatments and I can not expect others who do not know me to change their noise patterns so that my ears do not ring. Instead when I am going somewhere where noise is a factor, I wear earplugs if it bothers me. Especially hockey arenas, they set my ears off. I understand what you mean about certain noises as I have issues with that as well as in certain tones set mine off. However that is something I have to deal with and try to. It is not something that strangers have to accommodate.
That's another thing that annoys me - when people have their music blaring out from their earphones. I always listen to music when I'm out, but when sitting next to someone on a crowded train, I don't want to hear their terrible music over my own.
just keep trying to start a conversation with them... eventually they get pissed off at not being able to get through a song in one sitting and leave it off :mickey:
yeah I get that heat. I do. I just wish people instead of saying you are crazy and continue doing it, to be nicer. If I have to leave the bank or store or whatever, I guess I will have to. It sucks bc most days I can nto get much done. I want to get the noise canceling headphones, but they are so dang expensive. do the earplugs work for you heat?? I might have to invest in some. For instance today I have to go out and this is not only going to be hard on my body but on my ears. Yikes. Yep tipsy, people can be so dang annoying sometimes. It is when it becomes painful for me that I just am at a loss.
The ear plugs really do help me. I don't always have to wear them but when I start to get the ringing, I put them in or I get really dizzy and drop like a penny. I have tried different ones and I really like the soft swimming ones as they seal the ear well but they do not feel like they echo. They also last a long time and are cheap. Maybe pick up a pair and just try them, never know it might help a little.
