Okay, i did a search about resistance, and it only turned up one post, so maybe this hasn't been done to death...

    RESISTANCE TO MARIJUANA

    What is the correct answer:

Do you build UP resistance to pot?

Or, do you break DOWN your body's resistance by smoking more?

i'm going to guess that smoking more breaks down our resistance, as is the case with first-timers who can't catch a buzz, but i could be wrong.

    Your thoughts?

No, I think first timers don't get a buzz because they don't have the technique mastered yet to properly inhale the smoke.

Our brains have receptor sites where the THC latches onto, which basicly, is the chemical action of you getting high.
The more THC you put up there, the more your body gets used to handeling it, and thus, can break it down quicker, leading to a lesser high.
So your brain builds up a resistance to the THC.

First timers cant take that big of hits, so thier doses are alot smaller.

First timers also have a very very very low resistance to THC, which is why they can smoke a joint, or just take 2 good bong hits, and then be high as fuck for like the rest of the day.

in fact i think it would be ridiculously obvious to all of everyone if marijuana really lowered tolerance to itself. us stoners would only have to get a wiff of marijuana smoke and we'd be stoned off our nut

Yeah i usually only smoke like once a month... believe it or not... and it works pretty well for me. I can smoke one bowl and be gone. When i used to smoke like every day, i could only get high off a few bowls.

Thanks for all the replies! i had done some research before posting:

    Tolerance and dependence
Recent research on tolerance and dependence with respect to marijuana is quite sparse. From earlier efforts, however, it would appear that tolerance to marijuana is not an issue, particularly (as is true in the vast majority of cases), if doses are small and use nonchronic. Supporting this position is the relatively few reports of medical problems from cessation of use.
    -- from http://www.cedro-uva.org/lib/harrison.cannabis.02.html .

And this article from Rolling Stone magazine:

The architects of marijuana prohibition have long maintained that tolerance to cannabis means the same thing as tolerance to addictive drugs like cocaine and heroin - that users need more and more to get high, driving them to crime and desperation. Now, the federal government's own research indicates that precisely the opposite is true. Science has finally caught on to what tokers have known all along: With marijuana tolerance, you have to smoke less to get high! High Times correspondent Jon Gettman explains the latest findings and how they discredit the government's drug policy.

which is what led to me asking the question. Most of the sites i visited stated that there was precious little research into this, so i suppose it's still up in the air, in which case, we can each choose to believe whatever we want! [IMG]

the article goes on to say that when you smoke more, you get less of the 'high' feelings and just get fucked up and maintain a daze or something like that, it was an unusual point, a long article to refute, i was in the process of it actually but i had a break and havnt picked it up

the guy i first smoked with maintained that he had a low tolerance because he smoked a lot. strangely enough, it seemed really true for him... i wonder, how long of constant smoking does it take to build up a noticeable tolerance? he would smoke every day or every other day for weeks, and still get high off of almost nothing. i know that my tolerance rarely changes, it depends MUCH more on my weed quality than my tolerance to it.

also, i don't know what all the fuss is about the 'first time' of getting high. personally, i was paranoid out of my skull... i mean, i still had a great time, but i've had MUCH better highs since i learned to direct and enjoy my high.

Dr. Bill ~ your time and effort are greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately for us, i don't believe that there have been any studies about this that aren't slanted in one way or the other.

i guess another way to look at it is this:

Do you get LESS high smoking the same amount?

Vicki would probably the one to ask about that, since she uses hers in a controlled manner ~ strict measurements; a standard for the mode of ingestion; etc.

So, how about it, Vicki? Are you having to up your dosages, or are you still feeling the same with the same amount?
