Hello! My three friends and I are making a short road trip up to Winnipeg in a few weeks here. We are all super excited. I have looked some stuff up for things to do, but I was wondering if anybody has some recommendations or ideas for us while we are there. We're pretty much down for anything, we just want to make sure and have a good time! Thank you!
Cool, depends how cheap you are ... do you want to only free stuff? There is the Fringe Festival starting in a couple of days, there is an outdoor stage and free events at the old market square which is in the exchange district. Go to the King's Head Pub which is across the street from there. Go to the Times Change(d) Cafe on Main street and check out some bands... Go down to Osbourne Village go sit on a patio and have some drinks, go to the Toad and check out some more live music or jsut hang out and meet some cool people. Go get some pizza at "A Little Pizza Heaven" beside the Toad its soooooo yummy... you might die of pure joy. Also go to Grand Beach which is about a 50 min drive north of Winnipeg down highway 59 or go to Gimli which is North.
Then there is folklorama in august which represents cultures from around the world and you gotta go to a SOCIAL for crying out loud
Go to the Forks, and down to Corydon ave but if you dont have alot of cash I wouldn't suggest going to Corydon
Is this the only other guy from The Peg here? You already missed Folk Fest which is the most wonderful time of the year, but Fringe Fest is definitely worth a check-out. Go see Advanced DnD: 3rd Edition. It's a improvised dungeons and dragons soap opera (and my friend plays an Orc in it). Some great eats are...like was said before, A Little Pizza Heaven...a godsend after a late night of drinking in Osbourne Village...The Line Up and Mondragon (the latter has an all Vegan menu) are awesome. Spend an hour or two walking around the Exchange District checking out weird vintage clothing stores and art shops...Ragpickers is particularly fun to play in and has an awesome book store upstairs. Good bars... The Cavern/Toad in the Hole. The Toad in the Hole is an English style pub that's quite fun to hang out in, and in the basement is The Cavern which features some of the best local bands. Located in Osbourne Village. The Albert - If punk, metal, and indie are your thing, then The Albert is the place to go! Located in the Exchange District Times Change(d) - What the guy above me said. The Pyramid - Excellent bands both from Winnipeg and abroad, and if no one is playing, there's usually a pretty good DJ. Located Downtown. If your into the get up, get fancy, get dressed, smell nice, pay for expensive drinks, hit on drunk girls/hit up drunk guys for drinks, new haircut scene, then I'd probably recommend Tijuana Yacht Club (or TYC). I've never been there myself because it's not my scene, but it works well for the Abercrombie and Fitch Crowd. Others: If your into skateboarding or BMXing, BRING YOUR EQUIPMENT. Winnipeg has one of the best skateparks in the world located at the Forks, and numerous other very very very good skateparks around Town such as Michael Komenda Memorial park and the Fort Garry skatepark. The Forks: There's often something good going on at the Forks. There's a market with a really nice hemp clothing store on the second level and food galore! If you're into shopping your a little bit out of luck if your a guy, but there are some great stores for the gals in our city, including Brave New World and Velvet Plume in the Wolesley area (if your into the more "hippie" fashion) and many neat stores on Corydon and Osbourne. Be sure to check out Local Shop Awesome in Osbourne Village, though I believe it goes by a different name now...it might be called For the People. The Folk Fest Music store - all the music you would never find anywhere else. Located in the Exchange District. Movie Village - all the movies your would never find anywhere else. If your into movies, check this one out! Thursday Night Drum Jams - Vimy Ridge Park in Wolseley. Bunch of us cool kids get together and drum and spin fire and smoke pot and drink beers. Sunday Afternoon Drum Jams - Assiniboine Park. Same as the above without the fire dancing. Assiniboine Park - Biggest park in city, has a mediocre zoo and sculpture garden, many sports fields, a giant stage that usually has free music going on on Sundays. Manitoba Museum - It's a museum. There's a big boat in it. Now that I've written the tour book, have fun. Winnipeg is a shitty city with awesome people so make sure to make some friends!
Wow lots of knowledge here. You are getting some great info now. Osbourne village and the forks are always fun with tons of great activitys. I was there bar hoping on Canada Day and it was incredible. If it's after two and you still want to drink check out an Asian bar, if you tip well they will serve late or The Zoo. It's a beer store close to osbourne village. O ya and check out City Hall and the other hippy/ stoner frendly shops.
