... anyone seen this LIVE? Not the Rocky Horror Show, but the Rocky Horror Picture Show. People on stage whilst the film is playing?? I go to the Nuart in Santa Monica. If you havent gone, I suggest you do so.
The first time I saw it was very soon after it came out, and it was a real trip, as we would have said then. The crowd going in was the normal-looking "midnight movie" kind of crowd, and I remember running into the only true hippie girl I knew from my neighborhood growing up. I remember feeling reassured that someone so cool was there, because I was kinda a-scared of transvestites, LOL. Once inside, these normal people had erupted into complete pandemonium, I was stunned. This was before any rules were involved at the cinema, so people were throwing rice, using "water weenies" for rain, you'd get hit in the head with "toast." The wedding scene and rice was unreal, I remember it almost HURTING so much rice was falling. After showering and changing clothes I still found a piece of rice on me the next day. There were so many people acting stuff out that space up front was a problem. The memory in some ways is vague, yet it seems like it was just a few years ago at the same time. But I didn't become a regular or anything, I went back a few times, then not again until ten or fifteen years later, and nothing was much the same at all.
I have been with a cast on the stage, and some basic rules involved in the throwing of things and water and such. Squirt guns and the like were allowed, people had toast, they quit allowing instant rice, it made too much of a mess with the water, and the costumes got more outrageous the closer to Halloween it got. I know of some places in my area that used to only show it at midnight on Halloween.
I just went to their annual Bunny Stip show during the opening... its always a trip to see the show. Plus, most of the people they are really good at it and MOST of the costumes are spot on.
Wow. I feel like I'm missing out. This movie is quite frowned upon in my small shithole of a town. Never seen it on stage/in a theatre. I sit around with my two friends and watch it thrice in a row.
Yeh this is my favourite movie of all time I know all the lines and songs a little too well Not long ago I went and saw the australian rocky horror show, but it was a musical, not a live movie thing. I don't know of any places here that do that, but the musical was amazing
Ha. I'm going to the longest running midnight showing of RHPS tomorrow night for the third time. I mean, well, Milwaukee's gotta have something, right?
it plays every friday at midnight near me, me and my friends are going in the next month, getting dressed up and all i already have my outfit picked out!! gonna bring rice and all that :sifone:
I love this movie i remember watching it with a friend once and she made me watch it like 50 times. It would be amazing to see it live!
wow the rocky horror picture show!!?? we use to watch this one as a special midnight movie they played at a theater at myrtle beach! we use to sit in the movie itself and quietly smoked a joint or 2! can u imagine sitting in a public movie house and smoking some mj now?? hell if the cops did get you they might use the death penalty as justified punishment!! lol lmao but really peeps screw this modern day concept of law enforcement, when i was growing up in the 60s people really believed in the concept of to serve and protect!!! now most cops are on some ego trip sad to see things turned out like that!!
It's a good movie and very original. Susan Sarandon and Tim Curry are excellent. Direction, screenplay, story line, acting, music, choreography are first rate. Worth starting a cult over? I don't think so.
I hate this. I read an interesting article recently which basically said this is a comedy movie for people with very small intellects. And I agreed.
