Email from Rothburyfestival.com During the past three years, all of us involved with ROTHBURY have greatly appreciated the tremendous outpouring of support for the future of the festival. For 2010, we have had to make the tough decision to postpone our efforts. A contributing factor in our decision is that, due to various artists recording and touring schedules, we now believe that timing will not allow for us to assemble the cutting edge roster that everyone has come to expect from ROTHBURY. The result for this year is that we are not able to move forward with the integrity and high standards that we demand from ourselves and for the festival. Despite the 2010 postponement, we intend to move toward continuing ROTHBURY in 2011. This event is something very special, and we are unwilling to potentially tarnish what ROTHBURY is, and can become, by working under conditions that will produce anything less than a magical experience. ROTHBURY is more than a festival. It is a mission intended to discover strength in community, and what it means to be a large-scale sustainable event in these times. Our efforts are certainly not coming to an end. It is important for us to thank the people of Michigan, Oceana County, The Village of Rothbury, Grant Township, and the Double JJ Resort. Also, we thank our team members, volunteers, creative contributors, media partners, and sponsors. We have made many friendships that will last a lifetime. To all who attended the first two years of ROTHBURY we thank you for the soul you gave the event. Those times entered rarified air because of your energy. We hope you have a fantastic July 4th this summer. It's sad....
I was so excited to go back to rothbury this year... but shit happens. Rothbury 2011 is going to be amazing with all this time to plan. I cant wait!
I might end up there too. I go every other year and last time was in 08. Seems like it may happen. Waiting for the line up. Not to many big festivals left in close-ish range now that there is no 10k, roth, langerado...
Well there still gonna be amazing fests this year. Im trying to go to red rocks or all good this year depending on lineups. Im actually happy for Rothbury that they chose to skip this year, it gives them a distinction from a bonnaroo type festival. Rothbury is not a sell out! But I did hear part of the reason for skipping a year was noise complaints past 2 AM from locals... Either way 2011 is gonna be a goooood Rothbury
this fucking sucks, but i had heard rumors that this was going to happen...but i don't mind the reasons they give...i was planning on it being my first year this summer. im quite upset cuz i may be out of the country come summer 2011 but time will tell
Damn that was on the top of my list for festivals this summer...Oh well, luckily there are a shitload of festivals to choose from. That lineup last year was so freakin sweet though...
I was planning on going to other festivals too, this is the last summer I'm gonna be able to just do what I please and go to fests like this. I hope I'm able to go next year.. I'm super bummed. I loved Rothbury last year, so at least I have those memories!
This is pretty shitty news, Rothbury is an amazing place. But I do have alot of respect for the producers/promoters for doing this. Honestly, after the first year (2008), I was wondering how they could possibly follow up a lineup that good.. and lo and behold they had the Dead, the Cheese, AND Dylan in 2009... not to mention another 20-25 very talented, well-respected musical acts. So how do you follow up THAT lineup? Instead of selling out (so to speak) and signing a bunch of lesser-known headliners, they just called off the whole fest.. that takes guts, and it proves that all along they are not in it just for the money, and really want to provide a great experience for the fans.. I wish I could say the same for some other festivals I've been to.
IMO, I think they could have called it off, not just because of recession but with the complaints of noise from neighbors/council like someone said, this way calling it off would show the town of Rothbury just how much profit this festival brings into the county and folks who work/live there. I'm sure next year the books will be lacking quite a bit in funds and the council will be wanting the fest back because of the profits. Hopefully they will rethink about putting up with a weekend of happy people to pad their pockets.
I heard about this from a friend who said all the shows didn't get booked. Don't worry just make a stop by All Good
