A friend of mine is going through a rough time in his life right now, He's in the middle of a very sloppy very ugly break up with his girl friend of five years. He's kinda left with few options as to where he can put all his stuff since he was abruptly told to leave his former partners house. That being said he asked me to keep his pet snake until he can get his shit together. It's all good and I think the snake (A ball python I believe) is really awesome and I love letting it crawl around everywhere but it's getting towards the end of the month and that means feeding time. I know it's nature and I know its silly to feel bad for the live rat I'm going to need to feed it but I cant help it, I used to have pet rats! lol So any other snake owners who can give me any words of confidence? lol
From what I read the snake prefers them alive, And if that's the case I'd like to give it to him that way. Besides I don't want to kill it myself!
I didnt say kill the poor thing yourself I meant just knock him out so he dont feel it.Just think though the snake is way more important than some ole dirty rat anyways.LOL
Theres nothing natural about a rat thats been selected by a human being being put in a tank with no means of escape with a python. Thats not how nature works If people are going to keep snakes they need to feed already dead food, which is perfectly possible. Im not sure the snakes preference quite justifies this one In the wild, the creature in question may be old, infirm, wounded or the weakest of their group. They would have endless possibility to escape, it would not be certain horrible death
It also killed 1/4 of Europe a few years back... Just kidding! I read that a live rat is better for the snake, it didn't specify why. I wonder if snakes eat eggs...
I was being a smart ass.I asked him to at least do something so the rat doesnt have to suffer, you can buy dead food for snakes at certain petstores.
Theyre not dirty and it was far from being a domestic rat that spread the plague I dont do killing animal humour, if you really feel you have to do it, dont make fun of the poor thing aswellYeah you can buy dead food at pet shops
As gumball says theyre usually frozen "pinkies" or newborn mice or rats. There are also other types of food you can get that theyll happily gobble down, although Im not too well read up on reptiles as they dont appeal to me. Just go to a pet shop or reptile specialist and ask. Theres a lot of choice Im sure Although far from ideal at least it wouldnt be a live, grown rat having to go through that experience. Even if it was pinkies, at least theyd have been frozen and taken before they were fully formed and aware
Prolly not as healthy for the snake, I guess somethings always require something to die. Maybe we all learned something today!
Uhm, ok. Well, here I was trying to help you. Guess you were just being an asshole all along eh "Some things require something else to die"...I never said anything to the contrary. What I did say was that given the unnatural circumstances pinkies that had been frozen at birth were far more ethical than just sticking a live rat in there But hey its your life. I just thought you didnt want to do it and would be open to alternatives. Obviously not
The environment is unnatural for this kind of hunt and kill to take place in and therefore unfair. Like caged lions who are fed dead meat, a domestic snake can live off pinkies. Unless of course theres some plan in place to release this snake into the wild in the future. Which was never mentioned
