It's true. I'm off the market.

I've posted about my fear of gay men and my gripes about how tough it is to find friends and a bf, and I feel like I've won the gay lottery.

I felt a strong urge to go to the bar on Saturday night. I promised myself that no matter how nervous I got or how pointless it all seemed, I would tough it out for an hour.

I met someone. He saw me walk in the door and he thought I was cute but he was too shy to approach me. I saw him talking to a woman and figured he was bi or straight or just not interested.

We chatted about all sorts of things, difficult as that is to do in a gay bar. I had to stand in real close and shout. I had my arm around him for a while--dodgy maneuver, but he put his arm around me and things got chummier as the evening went on.

He invited me to spend the night at his place, but I wanted to hold off. I told him I didn't want to be a trick, and he said he didn't want me to be a trick. He did give me a ride home (I had walked to the bar) and we talked and held hands. He said that he wanted to see me again very, very soon and I agreed. He called Sunday afternoon and we made arrangements for lunch.

We had lunch, and then we went out to his place. I got a tour of the grounds and the house. We talked a lot about our lives and politics and spirituality and sex and what we want, and how we agreed about the big stuff, and a good part of what we want is each other. In fact, we even know a lot of the same people and are surprised (and disappointed) that we didn't meet sooner.

We promised to always listen to each other, to take care of each other and to work through any problems that might come up.

He said, "You know it's been a long time since I've had a lover."
I said, "Me too....I guess this means our dry spell is over?"
    He said, "Yep."

He lives out in the country, and I live in the city and don't drive. He said, "I'm really reluctant to take you to your place, but I've got some errands to run." I said, "I'll go along with you if that's not a problem."

So we went to the grocery store, and as we're going up and down the aisles I am thinking "I'm at the grocery store WITH MY BOYFRIEND." We go to wash his truck and as I'm drying it off I think "I'm drying MY BOYFRIEND'S TRUCK."

Right now the whole universe looks different. We're talking about how to coordinate our schedules; we plan to spend a lot of time together this weekend.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words about my fear and frustration. I just wanted to let you know that you're the greatest.

I can't wait until I see my bf again in Germany/I find someone.

    Congrats again!

Thanks for the kind words, folks. Obituary~Birthday, I think you'll find your man soon, and I hope you don't have to wait as long as we did. Toolmaggot, all I am going to say is that my bf is a man of many talents and I spend a lot of time smiling.

I feel positively ancient to say this, but when I was Obituary~Birthday's age, I had an idea of the life I wanted to lead. On Thursday, I'll be 45 and that life is starting to fall into place. So don't give up on your dreams!!
