I like many of you am passionate about the environment, but why do most people not care wether or not we destroy the world. I tried to convince a friend of mine to recycle and care more about the world. I made the point that too much coutnryside is dug up to make homes for the ever increasing immigrant population aswell as rich buisnes type people. Making money seems to be modern mans only concern. No longer can country homes be purchased by local people, richer people come in from the cities to buy a second home. Yet as i said all this my friend replied, "this is why we have national parks". A fare point you might think but it made me feel deeply sick. I wish to take care of the world for future generations. But why does no one feel this way. Living in a tent is preferable to living in a home, i can live without television and modern appliances but why do other people not feel this way. There is no-one i know personally that shares my veiws and i do not know what can be done. How do we make people care more about the environment. Plant trees, recycle waste, these are simple things yet no-one does them. So what are your ideas?
I'm often baffled by how little most people seem to care about living in an environmentally conscious manner. As far as I can tell, it's a combination of ignorance and selfish interests. Either people aren't aware of the toll their extravagant lifestyles are taking on the environment- or they're so caught up in their own little worlds that they simply don't care. I'd venture a guess that virtually no one is out to destroy the world intentionally and for no at least theoretically good reason (though there are quite a few who are willing to sacrifice the environment in the name of progress and prosperity). To bring about change, we've got to a) raise awareness for environmental causes, and b) do so in a big way, to catch the attention of the self- absorbed ones, and c) be able to make a strong case for why we believe what we believe to be true- to address the arguments presented by those who think progress and prosperity outweigh environmental concern. You can't talk someone into agreeing with you on virtually anything that matters- but you can force them to question what they've believed to be true.
thank someone there are people out there who who still care about the ozone it ids bullshit how people take care of it
it depends where you live i guess. folks i meet dont seem to WANT to destroy the world, they just are, lol. they didnt create the vehicle system, or they didnt create the meat industries, but they feel its inevitable they become and stay apart of it. the system is built to suck you into it i guess, and it works pretty good if you consider destroying the world good. it makes it so people dont know where to focus their concerned energy and it makes it so they dont have any concerned energy in the first place. so they just sordove frown about it when you tell them and go about their day and forget about it again.and it makes it hard to make a difference sordove. like buying organic chemical-free foods can sometimes be a little more pricey depending where you live at. lots of people are just straight up numb and brainwashed and poisoned with pollution and poor diets too... if anybody does figure out a good method on how to change minds and plant seeds of passion in people, please do share.... it seems working withthem on an individual basis is most effective. if your with a group of people and bring up global warming and try to explain it.. their obviously not gonna take it like they would if it was just you and one of those people. then once their all genuinely caring and becoming distressed when they hear you simply talk about it in a way that captivates them, their concern disappears when say their wife comes home. they dont feel their distress is valid i guess, but it totally is.
i think the only way to get the message across is through the media, becuase in todays media-controlled world people just watch t.v, thats how we all know whats going on, so if there were less pro-waste commercials and more commercials and programs on ways to help the enviroment and not destroy it, people might realize what they are actaully doing to the world and do something about it.
its all about profit at the end of the day isn't it, providing developed contries get their money, thats all they care about, its a sad world......money seems to be more important than life itself so it seems.......
everybody could live in yurts and be nomadic, but you see, someone got it in their head that if they had more stuff that would be good, but when they got as much as they could they were stuck and they asked themself, how do I get more? well I convince other people they need stuff of course! and I make Profit by selling them stuff from people who don't want the stuff or people who want it less and so more and more people got greedier and greedier, we call it advancement, but really it's just "how can I get immortal easier?" that's how we work I want to live in a yurt and a WVO bus for one........
all the profit in the world wont be any good to anyone " as their wont be any long term living . we will all pop our clogs coz some people decided to manafactuer shite that puts a great big hole in the ozone . good thinking batman..................think again
I don't suppose 'President George W.Bush' lays awake at night worring about America being the greatest contributor to the increasing holes in ozone above both the Artic & Antartica. The release of 'Carbon Monoxide' from America Industry & the Automobile - & the release of 'Carbon Dioxide' from burning fossil fuels increases the Sea-Levels each year & melts the polar Ice Caps as well as widening the Ozone depletion. It bades well though that President Bush as finally accepted that the Hole in the Ozone due to greenhouse gasses could be due to: "Man-made efforts". Eureka!!!!! a start at last. But what of all these Jobs it's gonna cost America Labor? should America cut it's greenhouse gas emissions. For the loss of jobs why should we preserve the bio-systems of Planet Earth for our grand-children?. Also Europe is a major polluter. But the two developing continents of India & China are both on the brink of major industrialised macro-economies & are not interested in restraining their burning of fossil fuels. Russia is also a major league player. The seas are warming by a few more degrees each year. This sends the fish further & further north because they cannot spawn in the warmer temperatures. A million species of fauna & flora are expected to become extinct over the next ten/twenty years due entirely to global warming. Global Warming is the single most important issue facing Mankind. Forget Nuclear War or Biological War. They remain within the domain of international controls.Forget Aids or super-germs.They can be controlled by human-containment. We are now seeing the writing on the wall -brothers & sisters!!!.
so you dont worry about the future of the younger generations............not having a future . maybe you should change your name to i"m alright jack .
thats convenient for you then init. so you dont have any nephews or neices?. i am sure you would feel a lot different if you did"there again ( maybe not ). i think i am wasting my time having trying to have a genuine conversation with you jackslutter"s.........sincerley
You know if the ozone gets destroyed, you wont be able to be outside without wearing some kind of protection tell your friend that!
The ozone issue has nothing to do with climate change. Ok how many of you people know that CFC's became dangerous when the patent expired on them? Look up an encyclopedia some time. It will tell you that ozone is an allotrope of oxygen. However you cannot breath it. Instead of being in the usual molocules of two atoms, ozone has molocules of three atoms O3. In this form it is highly unstable and often reforms back into normal oxygen O2 anyway. The official propaganda about CFC's is that they are inert. This means they are non reactive. However it is supposed that these inert gases "somehow work their way up to the ozone layer". It is a very interesting question how this would happen considering that CFC's are so heavy that they can be poured from one container into another, just like you can with water. The only difference is that CFC's are invisable to the human eye. The propaganda goes on to state that in conditions of ultraviolet light CFC's catalyse O3 back into O2 molocules. However, it is exactly these conditions that turns O2 into O3 in the first place. I have never seen it made clear anyhere as yet what reaction is happening at a faster rate. If he actually said that then he is an even bigger dope than I first gave him discredit for. Reasons I have already stated.Have you got a URL so I can have a look first hand? Nonsence. The official average increase in temperature of the world's oceans is 1ÂșC in the last 100 years. Study biological pollution. The reason that global warming as an issue is constantly being pushed down our throats, is to gain public acceptance of nuclear energy. [/QUOTE]
I agree with much of what you have said, I was about to go off on the same rant about the differences between global warming and ozone depletion. I would like to make the point that a 1 degree rise may not seem like much, but it is, especially in the timescale of a century. I do not agree that we are being fed global warming to make nuclear power more acceptable. I think it is a problem and nuclear power is a reasonable solution while solar power is maturing. Given the costs of a nuclear power station and the overhead costs of processing before and after use I would have thought it an unfavourable solution in the US where most industry is privatised.
Actually the pungent smell that you get from grinding steel or using a welder is in fact ozone. I am not quite sure if this is true, but I have heard that for every single occasion NASA sends a space shuttle into space the amount of ozone destroyed is equivalent to all the activities of mankind around the planet that takes place in four years. However, I am not sure if it really matters for reasons I have already given.
