yep first one this year. we were coming down from the cabin to the main shack, an he was bed down in a brush pile about 20 feet from the house. looked to be a first season on its own size,, about 150 pounds..

gonna have to keep feed an garbage an things locked up extra tight for a few days till it moves on.

anyone else get bears as pests this time of year???

Guess I see about 10 bears/yr. in the hollow (that's see which means there's a helluva lot more presence than that) - course I live in the woods and my windows are usually open and the bird feeders come down at night after the snow melts (experience with bears...and raccoons) but there are enough seeds on the ground that they can still get a taste ...and early on in the year I've seen the lying in it (bout 20 ft. from my "cabin").
Learned to keep the garbage and food locked up and keep the inside clean 'cause of them little bears (mice).
Seen coyotes a few times ...they have a den in the hollow but seldom get close encounters like with the bears; been 10 ft from the biggest black bear I've ever seen...he did not want to honor our space ...but finally did...was not afraid and close to arrogant...went and found my shotgun after that encounter... smell of gunpowder & metal which stays around quite a while, let's em know you Can enforce if needed.

Just love living in the wilds environment and feeling like I'm not taming it down too much.

    Have a good un

    Blessings

    Namaste

We don't have bears here, though we do have our share of raccoons, bobcats, and cougars. Haven't seen any of them in the yard, though...I think the cats and dogs in the neighborhood may just be intimidating enough for them to stay down at the lake.

We hear abotu them at our new place (not building until Spring) but the really bad part is there are coyote dens all over the outcropping behind the new site. I'm hoping they'll move on when we move in. I don't want our cats becoming snacks...
