Hey does anyone know if there is a way to get rid of scars? I've got scars from when I was younger from cutting myself and I really hate seeing them all the time.

cocoa butter is a good start although its best used as a preventative. Bio Oil is an excellent product for minimising scars, there is also a product under the Mebo brand which is natraul and amazing, its used in hospitals around the world, will try to get the name for you. :)

vit E and cocoa butter are both good... vit E moreso. Cocoa butter is best for stretch marks, more than scars

just before i say anything, id like to make clear im not a cutter anymore, nor do i
    condone it.

but i just thought you should know, cutting isnt 'ignorance.' its not something you do with the thought of "i sure hope i can find a way to clear up this scar..."

cutting is a coping mechanism, not a very useful one in the longrun, but a coping mechanism none-the-less.

not to be snobby or anything, but i do think its ignorance when you speak of something so unfortunate with a sort of arrogant attitude. im happy you see the uselessness in cutting, but for gods sake, all this girl was asking for was advice to reduce the constant reminders of troubled times from their skin.

i cut and burned when i was a teenager....not as much as most cutters....only when i was really upset. unfortunaltey the scars are there forever and there is not much you can do. i have heard that vitamin E oil helps but i have also heard that it will make your skin worse and that the vitamin E "helping" thing is only a myth. you could always ask your doctor if there is anything you can do. there is something i've seen at walgreens and i cannot remember the name but its specifically for scars and supposedly with daily use will minimize the look of them. its expensive and i have no idea if it works but check out your local eckard or walgreens and see if you can find something for scars. i think it starts with a "M".

    You should try...
Tea tree oil (worked wonders on a bad gash I got on my eyebrow).
    Aloe Vera.

    Good luck healing.

there are homeopathic scar remedies that I have heard really really work. I looked at a few, and one of the only ingredients they all had in common was thuja, so I got some of that by itself (I'm weird about taking combination herbs or homeopathic remedies because if I have a reaction, there's no way to know which ingredient disagreed with me). Seems to help quite a bit!

Thank you everybody for the suggestions. I didn't start this thread as a cry for attention. This happened years ago, I haven't cut myself since I was 15. You're absolutely right when you say,"people might learn not to be so silly and impulsive." I've been looking at these scars for 4 years thinking what the fuck did I do that for. What's been done is done. I chose to do it. I was ignorant and I regret it. Now I am just looking to diminish the effects of my stupidity.

Pom, there are several over the counter ointments (most of which contain onion oil, believe it or not) which can be helpful. The pharmacist can help you find them (I can't remember what they are called.)

Ignore those who understand nothing beyond the tip of their own self absorbed noses. YOU know you are recovering. You don't owe malcontents any explanations.

I am glad you are recovering.
    Blessings.

i dont know how bad or deep or frequent your scars are, but i do agree with jester on this one ;) ... i keep my scars because it shows me hwo far ive come since those times. they tell a story in a way, each scar revealing a feeling i couldnt handle that today i can.

its all in how you look at it though, if they are very visible, i dont blame you for wanting to cover something that others might judge you on without knowing.

Mederma really works well, at least to make redness go away. The lines, however, are there to stay. When I get older, I want to get full sleeve tattoos on my arms to cover up my scars. That way, the scars will no longer be noticable, but I won't forget about them, and will have somethning a little more pleasant to remember that time of my life by.

I agree with Jester with most of his points, but when you say; "Coping mechanisms are created out of ignorence on how to solve a problem... if you know you have a problem, seek out a real solution... " in my case I couldnt. I have clinical depression and sometimes it would get so bad I would do things I never meant to do, coping mechs or not. My ignorance didn't leave me suseptable to my illness, nor did I have any control over it.
